MIN-430 Topic 1 – DQ 2 August 29, 2023 In Chapter 1 of Faithful Preaching, the author mentions several biblical metaphors for those who proclaim God's word. Select one of these metaphors and discuss how it relates to a scriptural understanding of preaching. Professor and Classmates, In chapter one of Faithful Preaching, the author mentions various metaphorical examples. In the New Testament, (Merida, 2009, p. 15). I liked the preacher's depiction as a ‘Herald’ (keryx) proclaiming the Word of God (p.15). During Biblical times, a Herald represented the King whenever he had vital information for his people. The Herald was expected to carry the message honestly without misrepresenting the King, or he would die. He also possessed great authority. If he were ignored, it would be like ignoring the King himself. The only mention of a herald found in the Bible is in Daniel 3:4, “And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages.” And again in (1 Timothy 2:7; 2 Timothy 1:11; 2 Peter 2:5), Herald could be substituted for ‘Preacher’. Throughout the New Testament, we see the image of God’s messenger as ‘Herald, which represents a preacher of God’s Word with conviction, and ‘Kerysso,’ a public crier preacher of the Gospel. (Strong 2010). In 1 Timothy 2:7, we find ‘Keryks’ used by the Apostle Paul confirms that he has been chosen to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Biblical understanding of the metaphor for the preacher as ‘Heralds’ comprises those who have been Divinely appointed to preach God’s truth; it also.
