There are many biblical passages that teach believers about all the blessings they have because of their position in Christ. Review Romans 8 and discuss two of the spiritual blessings that are yours in Christ. Share in the discussion how these blessings can influence your life and ministry leadership. MIN-430 – Topic 5 – DQ-2 Sept 28, 2023 Elias Ruiz Professor and Classmates, My very first special application is on Romans 8:2, “For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” Paul wrote in verse 1 that there is absolutely no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Because the law of the Spirit of life has set us free in Christ Jesus from the law, or the principle of sin and death. Put another way, the Spirit of God always gives or brings life. That concept has set Christians free only in Christ Jesus. Without faith in Christ, we will not be justified by God (Romans 5:1), and if we are not justified, we will not receive the Spirit who brings life. Put clearly, because we have faith in Christ, God has given to us His Spirit that brings life. Living a life with no fear of condemnation influences my preaching and teaching. I teach my students that we have been set free from the law, and the Spirit of God always brings life. My second Spiritual blessing from Romans 8 is, “So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” (Romans 8:12-13. The flesh, in the narrow sense of sinful flesh in rebellion against God, gave us nothing good. So, we have no obligation to oblige or indulge it. Our debt is to the Lord, not to the flesh. Paul reminds us that living after the flesh ends in death, and we need to be reminded because we are often deceived into thinking that the flesh offers us life. When we put to death the deeds of the body, we force the sinful flesh to submit to the Spirit, so, we must do it by the Spirit. Paul tells us that not only are we saved by the work of the Spirit, but we also must walk by the Spirit if we want to grow and pursue holiness in the Lord. We cannot be like some among the Galatians who thought they could begin in the Spirit but then find spiritual perfection through the flesh (Galatians 3:3). Paul is a great influence as he explains in verse 13 by saying that one who lives according to the flesh will die (that is, be cut of from the presence of God), but that one who puts to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit will live (that is, enjoy the presence of God). Ultimately, God's vision for my life is that I become more like him as he has revealed himself to me in Christ, and being like him that I come to behold him face to face in perfect communion.
