This write-up is not meant to be a regurgitation of the material to the teacher or solely a summary of your conversation about this course. Responses must show thought, reflection, pondering and depth with college-level writing skills. 1. Provide a simple statement answering who you shared with. I shared with a close friend from my community group, Jane, who was curious about my faith and some of the practices of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 2. In a brief paragraph, identify the questions or insights from your personal study that informed your thinking as you prepared for your discussion. As I delved deeper into the scriptures and church teachings on baptism for the dead, I was especially intrigued by Paul's mention of the practice in 1 Corinthians 15:29. This prompted me to ponder: Why did early Christians find it essential to perform these baptisms? How does this relate to the larger plan of salvation? These questions framed my preparation for our conversation. 3. In 1-2 paragraph(s), write about what you learned as a result of this conversation. What was this conversation about? What direct lines or quotes from our reading material or your research were you referencing or thinking about as you had this intentional conversation? Our conversation delved deeply into the concept of baptism, the broader plan of salvation, and the role of temples in performing saving ordinances. Jane was particularly interested in understanding the theological reasons behind this practice. I frequently referenced Paul's mention in 1 Corinthians 15:29 and the teachings from recent church leaders, emphasizing that the act is a manifestation of God's love, ensuring all have an opportunity to accept the gospel, whether in this life or the next. This intentional conversation reinforced my understanding that the gospel truly is for everyone, and we have the privilege to assist in that great work. 4. In 1-2 paragraph(s), write about what you learned as a result of this conversation. Answer the following questions: o What deepened connections and insights did you feel because of this conversation? o What did you agree/disagree with in your discussions? How did you handle this? o Did anything discussed change your thinking? If so, what and how?
o How will you build on this knowledge to strengthen your family (now and/or in the future)? o What do you feel inspired to do now that you have read the material and engaged in this conversation? Our discussion revealed a beautiful connection between our earthly life and our potential eternal progression. Jane's perspective, though different from mine, allowed me to see how diverse interpretations of all point could back to a loving Heavenly Father. We did have some disagreements, particularly around the idea of free will in the afterlife, but we approached these with mutual respect and a desire to understand each other. This discussion refined my thinking about the responsibility we have to our ancestors and the importance of temple work. It has inspired me to become more diligent in my family history work, realizing that it's not just about names and dates but connecting with family across generations. Going forward, I feel an increased desire to visit the temple more regularly, ensuring I play my part in this essential gospel principle, thereby strengthening my family ties across generations.
