Week 4 Discussion
For our discussion this week we will discuss the views of music within the Islamic religion as discussed on pp. 82-83 in the text. What are (were) some of the contrasting viewpoints expressed by various sects within Islam?
What parallels, if any, are there from various religions in our own society regarding restrictions on what music can and can't, or should and shouldn't, be listened to?

For the discussion this week, we are instructed to discuss the views of music within the Islamic region as discussed within this week’s reading assignment over Chapter 27. Some of the contrasting viewpoints that were expressed by the various sects within Islam were the fact that it is so controversial within their culture and that there is no Islamic music that is intended to be religious. The parallels from various religions in our society regarding restrictions on what music
can and cannot or should or should not be listened to are simply a factor of freedom in my eyes. There are people within our society that religion means everything, and then you have Islams that do not even have religious music.
