I'd want the families to understand that separation anxiety is a normal part of development and that there are strategies we can use to help their children cope with these feelings. 3. Why is it important to start the conversation before stranger anxiety is evident in either of the infants? It's essential to start the conversation early because it helps parents to be prepared for the changes and to understand that their child's anxiety is a normal stage of development. This way, they can start practicing strategies before it becomes more challenging. 4. How might you handle these questions with families who have a child with special needs? Would the conversation be any different? Why or Why not? For families with a child with special needs, the conversation would be personalized to address their specific situation, ensuring that the strategies and information provided are relevant and supportive of the child's unique needs. The core message about separation anxiety and its developmental significance remains the same, but the approach and resources might differ to accommodate the child's requirements. It's all about inclusion and ensuring every family feels equipped to support their child's growth.
