Refer to Chapter 8 of Groups: Process and Practice and share how the use of role-plays among group members could affect the stages of group development. (Share an example using at least one stage of group development.) What purpose could role-play serve for individual members and for the group as a whole? Role playing in the performing, or working, stage can be done in many ways. If a member of the group has struggles with some relationship in their life, the leader can have another member play the role of that person while the struggling group member then addresses their issues with that member. They can say things that they have never been able to say or would like to say and get feedback from the group. Conversely, the member can also play the role of the person they struggle with (Corey et al., 2018). This is beneficial to all members of the group as their thoughts and reactions are practiced and different outcomes are explored. This can help the clients utilize those skills outside of the group as they learn new ways of thinking and experiencing situations. As more scenarios are played out, reactions can become more intentional in real life that align more closely to the outcome that the client may desire. This higher level of relating can help foster improved relationships and bolster confidence in tackling more issues with deliberate intention. It also helps in the area of both verbal and non verbal communication, recognizing that not all situations require a response. All of the things being learned in therapy can then be applied in real life which will ultimately help the client become more autonomous (Sutton, 2022). References Corey M. S., Corey G., & Corey C.
