Please complete the worksheet below: Please describe how the Id, Ego, and Superego would respond in Scenario #1 and Scenario #2. Then, come up with you own example for Scenario #3. Scenario #1: It is late at night and you are studying and you feel very hungry. Id: The Id, being driven by basic instinct and desires, would respond by urging me to satisfy my hunger immediately, possibly leading to impulsive actions like snacking or ordering food delivery, and after eating, I probably have a food coma, and I will go sleep. 2
Assignment 3 - Psychology 100 Superego: The Superego, representing the moral and ethical standards, would respond by reminding me of the importance of sticking to a healthy routine and not giving in to immediate gratification, potentially leading to feelings of guilt or sacrificing hunger for the sake of studying, then I will continuing studying without eating. Ego: The Ego, attempting to balance the conflicting demands of the Id and Superego, would likely consider the urgency of the hunger and the importance of concentration for studying, and may find a compromise, such as taking a short break to have a light snack before continuing with studying. Scenario #2: You have an 8:30 a.m. exam and your alarm is going off at 7:00 a.m. and you feel tired. Id: The Id, prioritizing immediate pleasure and comfort, would make me to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep, regardless of the impending exam. Superego: The Superego, representing the person's internalized rules and values, would assert the importance of responsibility and punctuality, urging me to wake up and prepare for the exam. Ego: The Ego, mediating between the Id and Superego, would likely consider the importance of getting enough rest and being mentally prepared for the exam, along with the importance of not missing it. It may decide to compromise by allowing a short snooze and then forcing me to wake up and get ready for the exam. Scenario #3: My friend invites me to go to her birthday party tonight, but I still have homework which is due at midnight the same day. Id: The Id, being driven by instant gratification and pleasure-seeking, would likely prioritize attending the birthday party. It would see the opportunity for socialization and fun as more appealing than completing the homework, then I will let the homework pass and have fun at the party. Superego: The Superego, representing the internalized moral and standards, would urge me to prioritize their responsibilities and fulfill my obligations. It would emphasize the importance of completing the homework on time and prioritize my academic journey, so I will stay home to finish the homework. 3

It may consider negotiating with my friend to arrive late or leave early from the party, enabling the completion of the homework while still participating in the birthday party. Part 2. Let’s Hang Out In the Museum Cafe (In Padlet)! One of my favorite parts of visiting a museum is hanging out in the Museum Cafe with my friends and chatting about all of the awesome things that we experienced and observed. Once you’ve visited all of the links, reviewed the videos, and took the virtual tour, please answer the following in our class Padlet. 1. After visiting the Freud Museum in London, do you believe that Freud is still relevant today? Why or why not? 2. Briefly describe one major takeaway or describe one particular item or artifact that stood out to you as you wandered around the Freud Museum. When you’re ready, record a brief 2 to 3 minute video in Padlet that answers the above questions.
