Name: Mathew Jacob Date: 1/30/24 Monitor and adjust – Nakadate & Kiesler 1. Good teaching requires dynamic decision making based on questioning and student feedback. What kinds of decisions does Ms. Nakadate have to make during the class that impacts student learning? Give at least two specific examples and explain how they positively impacted student learning. Ms Nakadate ask the students to recall what they learn. Ms Nakadate uses non verbal clues to know her students attention span. She may use this by organizing groups or group projects. She using questions to observe her students response and based upon that she will have positive impact on the student learning. This helps the student to remember and build connection between each class period. The T -chart helps with the students and her telling them to write down in the notebook. 2. Thinking again about Ms. Nakadate’s classroom, explain two different strategies she used to monitor student understanding. Give specific examples from the video. She tells them to write down what they learn and how it relates to them. She told the student that the statement they mention was correct and write it down in the notebook as a resource. Writing down information is important to the students and it helps them to look back at what they learn. This helps the students to write things down which helps students to remember the topic better. She has names on popsicles and pulls it out for students to participate. This show that equative among the students. 3. Mr. Kiesler is teaching a high school biology class on parasites and is constantly monitoring student engagement, particularly during the video. What techniques does he use to maintain student engagement and to keep the focus on learning? Give at least two specific examples. He is very energetic person. He uses his energy to keep the student engage in the topic. He also uses root word to help the student to focus on the word. The root word will help the student to understand the meaning of the word. He also let the students teach each other so it helps them understand the topic better. When student help their peers it help builds character and self-esteem.
4. Although the content in both classrooms is different, both teachers were monitoring and adjusting their instruction so that students learned. Compare and contrast both classrooms. How did the teachers monitor and adjust in similar ways, and how did they use different techniques? Why might they use different methods? Both teachers were good in executing their teaching scheme. They would engage with the student that was engaging to the student interest. The teacher for biology will use root word to help the student to understand the meaning. The other teacher will tell the student to write things down which also helps the student to remember the material efficiently.
