Name: Mathew Jacob Date: 2/13/24 Environment, Routines, and Procedures – Fair & Rogers 1. The physical activities that are a part of Ms. Fair’s lesson can lead to concerns about student safety. What are some guidelines that Ms. Fair applies to ensure student safety? Give at least two examples. Ms. Fair makes sure the students are knee to knee to each other and also she instructed them to close the circle. Another example of student safety is that when she was running around with the student, they were holding each other hands. She also practice steps with them and use them do them in two turns. She let me practice with each other as well. 2. Ms. Rogers organizes her lesson so that students work collaboratively in small groups. Describe how this practice benefits the students in their learning. Give at least two examples from the video. Ms. Rogers uses the group as a method of learning. In small groups, one student can teach one topic to another student and explain in a minor way so the student can better understand. Teaching one another can help them remember it better since its by action of learning that they can retain. She put some students in station activity. In each folder there is answer to five questions and topic for the students to pick from. She allows them to find out the right answer and she gave 10 minutes for each stations. At each lab group, discussing was accurate with students and learning was going on. She explains graph learning skills to a student and ask questions towards them. She allows the students to learn from their mistakes and she talks to student how they miss some points. She wrote on students papers to help them in the learning the physics of 9.8 gravity on earth. Each group will change station and works with each student group with their particular wrong and right questions. 3. Ms. Rogers has built a classroom environment where the students themselves have taken on the responsibility for their own learning. Explain how this can benefit students.
When students that take responsibility of their own leading helps them be in charge. They should know the pros and cons of this since some students do not know how to learn on their own. However, when they get help and learn on their own, they will remember it better. The student can also study at their own pace. When they take responsible over their studies and achieve their goal, the self-esteem increases and helps to increase their learning attention. 4. How do the routines and procedures previously developed in both classrooms lead to active participation by all students. Provide at least two examples. Ms. Fair class had the routines of singing a song and she mention 5 words that they do not know the meaning of. She asked questions and allow students time to respond. She use “friend of mine” as a song and kids were intrigue by it. Ms. Fair uses penny and let the student chose which hand has the penny. The studies are interested because they trust their teacher to help them. She picks students out of the random and they seem to enjoy it. Ms. Roger asked for release form when she wanted from a particular student. When the pledge of allegiance was spoken, student got up and respected the songs. She asked the students what was difficult for them and not write their name and that help them to express their thoughts without fear of being scrutinizes for it. She said no phones allowed and students knew that already.
