Anahi Paz HEAL 101 Jan 30, 2024 Lifestyle Wellness Project Part 1: Choose a behavior The measurable objective I plan on changing is to reduce my daily irritability, anxiety, and overstimulation due to postpartum depression. To achieve this, I've created a plan to track my anxiety and irritability levels daily. I plan to record myself when I’m feeling any of my anxiety, irritability, and overstimulation levels so that it can help to reduce these issues by finding ways of adopting behavior change strategies when these occur. This will help me feel more relaxed and improve my sense of well-being. The levels of my issues have fluctuated since becoming pregnant with my daughter two years ago, and the last two years have been particularly overwhelming and overbearingly stressful. I'm determined to take control of myself and improve my mental health. Since July of last year, I have assumed the role of a single parent due to my husband's military deployment. Balancing a full-time job, full-time studies, and being the sole caretaker for my daughter has taken a toll on me, leading to over-stimulation, irritability, and constant anxiety. As a result, I find myself always on high alert and constantly on-the-go, which has negatively impacted my ability to sleep, concentrate on daily tasks, and even caused severe migraines. The migraines can be excruciating at times, and I know my irritability, anxiousness, and overstimulation of constantly hearing mommy, mommy, mom all day increases the severity of
my issues. The area of wellness this situation applies to the most is my mental health, as the issues affect my sleep, diet, energy, being able to be emotionally and mentally present with my daughter and being able to have my own time. Both my emotional and intellectual health are affected, as the issues that I’m facing change my moods and I have a hard time concentrating on important tasks and my daughter because of the issues. Additionally, the issues affect my interpersonal life, as I often say no to social engagements due to being overstimulated and overworked. The research article, “Consequences of Maternal Postpartum Depression,” confirmed my decision to figure out what the center of my issues because the article informed me that long- term effects can not only affect my mental and emotional state but can also affect my child as well (National Library of Medicine, 2019). I would never want my child to suffer due to my mental and emotional instability and I want to control those issues now, so I don’t cause bigger issues while trying to raise her to be a good human. I look forward to changing my anxious, irritable, and overstimulated behavior so I can enhance my mental and overall health. Reference: Slomian, J., Honvo, G., Emonts, P., Reginster, J.
