Outline Topic: ADHD and eating disorders in childhood and adolescence. This can be challenging in adolescent and teen adults both men and women, as it may fail to notice the younger generation. There are s tudies which may suggest that 20 % of kids that are diagnosed with ADHD may also develop an eating disorders, which may include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and some may experience a binge eating disorder. Thesis Statement: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the causes and impact of eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervous and binge eating among others and the possible mental health interventions that can help patients. Assertions: Our bodies go through so many different and hard stages in our life, low self-esteem, hormonal changes, emotionally feelings. T he most common ones were those with autism spectrum disorder (42 %), learning disability (17 %), depressive disorder (12 % to 50 %), and anxiety disorder (15 % to 35 %). In addition, recent studies suggest that 20 % of children with ADHD also develop an eating disorder (ED). In other words, people with ADHD are 3.8 times more likely to present an ED as a comorbid diagnosis. Issues: Besides depression and anxiety, ADHD is the third most prevalent mental health disorder worldwide, affecting more males than females.
70% of adults and 40% of children with ADHD have an increased risk for obesity compared to the general population. Those that develop Bulimia nervosa (BN) in pediatrics with childhood ADHD is high. Negative body image, social pressure, and restraint eating contribute to development of AN (anorexia nervosa) by extreme self-starvation. Challenges: Gender differences could be concerning neurodevelopment problems and are associated with eating disorders (EAT-P). The strongest in eating disorders for girls would be social interaction. In boys the strongest eating disorder was hyperactivity and impulsivity. Problems: Eating disorders in children can lead to long term illnesses and can be life threatening and can lead to damage of the organs. o Heart Disease o Gastrointestinal Problems o Neurological Problems Treatment: Treatments will very in each person factors that complicate anorexia nervosa such as those of: Substance Abuse, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Boarder Line, Personality Disorder, Depression, and anxiety. Medication Therapy can be used to help those that suffer from ADHD and eating disorder would be CBT as it’s the most popular and effective.
