From the readings discuss the differences between psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Then talk about which theory you mostly closely align with and how you would apply it in your clinical practice Cognitive behavioral therapy sees the process of change as being a relatively short-term process whereas psychodynamic therapy is a long-term process of change . The aim of psychodynamic therapy is for the client to gain insight and the aim of cognitive behavioral therapy is change. Psychodynamic therapy is when a therapist works with his/ her clients to help them become aware of how their unconscious processes may be causing conflict, and/ or harder daily functioning. It’s identifying unconscious conflicts, which may be from childhood. Humanistic therapy helps clients fulfill their potential for personal growth. A client centered therapy with active listening and unconditional positive regard. A therapist works with clients to help them develop their full potential for personal growth through greater self-understanding. I believe psychodynamic and humanistic therapy are great, and can work to help individuals and their own personal areas of need and growth. Although, I feel more towards with Humanistic Theory, I would apply to my clinical practice by convey empathy, encourage learner to establish goals, promote self-directed learning, active learning strategies to adopt new behavior and ask appropriate questions to encourage the learner to seek answers.
