It is not in the scope of this course to take you completely through the design process, but we will look at the major components of the following aspects of course development: 1. Formulating goals (also known as major learning outcomes) 2. Writing specific objectives (also known as behavioral objectives) 3. Writing a course syllabus Many times, especially in an established dental hygiene school, the course that is to be taught has previously been designed - the major goals and objectives have already been written, and it is now your responsibility to follow those goals and objectives. However, it is important to understand what these are, and to be able to think about and formulate some on your own.
