There are many factors that contribute to the psychological development of each individual. The first item to discuss would be the biologically contributing factors. These factors on their own will not be completely responsible for the initiation of any psychological disorder, however they can be highly contributing items when it comes to an individual's likelihood of mental disorder development. A person's family history, specifically including their genetic structure and trades that have been passed down through their family’s generations can give clues related to the possibility of genetic susceptibility or development a very psychiatric disorder. The physical structure of the brain is unique to each individual as well as the connecting neurotransmitters. These structures and pathways and their individual uniqueness can also play a role which is highly dependent on their overall functionality related to what would be considered normal. The heredity and physical traits that are passed down to a person's offspring are highly dependent upon how close the relation is to the person (Kalin et al., 2020). Unfortunately, it is not as simple as saying a person has a genetic marker and therefore, they are guaranteed to develop any specific illness, rather it can be used to identify potential susceptibility as it pertains to the development of mental illness. Developmental and cognitive factors when it comes to psychopathology add another layer of considerations. Many abnormal behaviors Again in childhood from birth continuing on through adolescence. Understanding developmental milestones and analyzing if the patient is meeting those or lagging behind Will often give many clues related to potential psychiatric diagnosis. Ensuring that perspective can be gained as it relates to diagnosing someone with a mental health abnormality is paramount for understanding what may be root cause factors from the patients past. Accompanying the developmental factors of childhood would be the socioeconomic considerations. Socio economic considerations must be taken into account throughout the lifespan, however is perceived that they play the greatest role in the early portion of a person's life when they are still highly susceptible and developing cognitively. It is much more difficult for a child to focus on needs that are higher up on the hierarchy if their base level items are not being met. Socioeconomic status of the parents or the family can have a major impact on a child's development, including but not limited to access to education, healthcare, psychiatric services, extracurricular or other stimulating activities, food security, and also safety and security in their daily life. Understanding that individuals and families that are lower on the socioeconomic ladder are likely to be at a far greater risk from exposure to crime, violence, stress, and perceived threats. They would be much easier on an individual develop cognitively and psychologically if they know that they are attending a financially stable educational institute, have a safe home to return to, plenty of food to eat, and a lack of exposure to drugs, crime, or violence. Many of these factors will end up overlapping when it comes to the emotional development of a person. Frequent exposure and desensitization related to social, cultural, interpersonal, or environmental factors can either increase or decrease the prevalence or likeliness that a mental health disorder may develop (Craighead et al.). For these reasons it is highly dependent on all of these factors in conjunction with the biological susceptibilities of an individual when trying to gain context. Interpersonal relationships related to psychopathology are also highly influential. The relationship that a child may have or lack that of primarily with the parents or caregivers we'll set the stage for development. Humans are by nature very social and especially during the childhood and adolescent phases do we find that the individuals around us our mentoring whether they intend to or not (Garber & Bradshaw, 2020). These environmental factors as well as the people that may play an impactful role will help to either enforce positive cognitive processes and emotional development or the opposite, obviously with an unmeasurable amount of
variables for in between. There is no hard rule for the development of mental health disorders as it relates to any individual despite their statistical and genetic susceptibility. This is why the nurse practitioner must always take into account circumstance, context and the individuals emotional or cognitive development one considering psychopathology or diagnosis (Butcher & Kendall, 2015). With this in mind the theoretical perspective on a psychopathology and its impact on the psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner is highly variable and individualized, quite similar to the scenarios previously discussed. The nurse practitioner it's not exempt from bias and factors that were at play during that individual development and their impact on the providers perspective need to be reflected upon. It is important for the provider to not simply attempt to practice medicine without any consideration for the development and impactful life scenarios that they have dealt with, however to use them with a certain amount of perspective but also treating the individual patients as such knowing that they came from and were developed under completely different circumstances.
