Borrowing from your real-life examples, please share various ways in which your personality characteristics described in the two tests influence your attitudes and/or behavior at work Discussion Week 3   The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Five-Factor Model (FFM), Big Five, are two personality tests used to understand and assess personality traits. The Big Five revolves around five core personality traits: conscientiousness, emotional stability, agreeableness, extraversion, and openness to experience (Luthens, Luthens, & Luthens, 2021). In contrast, the MBTI focuses on four personality traits, extraversion/ introversion, sensing/ intuiting, thinking/ feeling, and judging/ perceiving (Luthens, et. al., 2021). The MBTI is measured using a dichotomy while the FFM is measured on a continuum (Samindar, Vibhute, & Kumar,
2022). Both tests are used to evaluate an individual’s personality traits and potential job performance. I took the FFM personality test, and the results were, open to new experiences at 63%, conscientiousness at 83%, extraversion at 23%, agreeableness at 9%, and emotional stability at 97%. My wife also took the test using her view of me, and the results were open to new experiences 28%, conscientiousness 68%, extraversion 26%, agreeableness 1%, and emotional stability 89%. Extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability were similar. However, I viewed myself as more open-minded than my wife did. The FFM test verifies that I am an introvert. This is no surprise to me as being around and interacting with other people is exhausting. However, as a former police officer, I can be assertive and confident when needed. I also enjoy going to concerts, operas and plays. Agreeableness is how individuals interact with others and the tendency to show pro- social behaviors (Lim, 2023). Therefore, as an introvert, I am not surprised that agreeableness would be so low as I can be rude, harsh, and quick with others because I want out of the conversation or interaction quickly. Furthermore, both FFM tests revealed that I am very high in emotional stability. This is also not a surprise as I struggle with anxiety, depression, and panic disorder. Conscientiousness refers to being dependable, hardworking, organized, and persistent (Luthens, et. al., 2021). For example, when I have a task to complete or a job to do, I will not stop until the task or job is completed to a satisfactory level. One area in which my wife and I differ is regarding open-mindedness. While I wouldn't say I like change and prefer a routine, I also play classical violin, enjoy operas and classical music, build things, and find creative ways to complete a task. I also took the MBTI personality test, and the results were, introvert 72%, sensing 3%, thinking 62%, and judging 44%. My wife also took the MBTI using her view of me, and the results were, introvert 56%, intuitive 6%, thinking 53%, and
judging 41%. My personality test showed me as an ISTJ personality and my wife’s test showed me as an INTJ. As with the FFM both tests, one by my wife and one by me, the MBTI shows that I am an introvert. My wife and I both scored judging similarly, which shows that I am structured, time-oriented, decisive, and organized (Luthans, et. al., 2021). This is true as I hate being late and when a decision is made, I make it objectively and stand by my decision. We also both viewed me as thinking. As a former police officer following the rules and justice are important, a police officer should also be analytical when conducting official duties. Where we differed was in sensing vs. intuiting. I viewed myself to be more sensing and she viewed me as more intuitive. I could honestly see myself being both of these as I prefer to rely on facts and live in the present. However, I do find that I enjoy considering the possibilities of how my actions will develop in the future. Personality tests can only be as forthright as the person taking them and may demonstrate someone’s predisposition to certain traits, job performance, or how they will react in a future situation. However, emotions and maturity play roles in how an individual will react to situations. For instance, an individual may be predisposed to being disagreeable, angry, and rude, but as that person matures, their current emotional state will change how the individual reacts to a situation from one day to the next.   References
