Civics | 5.2 Assignment: Limiting Government Power Directions: In this assignment you will be asked to identify, analyze, and explain factors that limit the power of the government. Draw upon the current lesson, but also think about our earlier lessons, especially those regarding the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the rest of the constitutional amendments (these are covered in Unit 4). For each of the factors, list an example that fits the category. Think about how this meets the expectation of a limit on government power, and then explain in 2-3 sentences each why the example you selected limits the power of the government. The following links will be helpful: Constitution and Amendments (look for the tabs in the upper right hand side of the page that say “Article” and “Amendment” to navigate): Interactive Constitution (http://constitutioncenter.org/interactive-constitution#) Case law : follow this link to a list of landmark Supreme Court cases (http://www.uscourts.gov/about-federal-courts/educational-resources/supreme-court-landmarks) Factor Your example (2 points each) Explanation of why your example limits government power (2 points each) Principles : select from concepts like enumerated powers, separation of powers, bicameralism, checks and The 10th Amendment This limits the power in the constitution.
