Jim Crow Project
Answer the following questions
after viewing "Slavery by Another Name" and list any resources
that you use to develop your answers
.
1
.
What impact did the Jim Crow era have on African Americans achieving equal opportunities
in the American society
?
African Americans were greatly affected by the Jim Crow era when it came to achieving
equal opportunities through the practice of discrimination and segregation. People of color
would, for instance, be assigned to locations in schools with unhygienic conditions and with
lower funding than the white populations, which add to educational inequality
.
2
.
How has it affected the socioeconomic status and the ability to build wealth of African
Americans
?
Due to
the Jim Crow laws' creation of the belief that people of color are inferior, African
Americans' socioeconomic standing and capacity to accumulate money were negatively
impacted. Consequently, when they are denied the chance to improve their financial situation,
they find it difficult to do so. For example, African Americans are prevented from breaking
through the poverty line by poor working conditions and below-average incomes, creating a
never-ending cycle of financial uncertainty
.

.
How did the Jim Crow era impact the debate over affirmative action
?
The Jim Crow era had an influence on the affirmative action issue because it made
society realise that, in order to create a society that aspires to equality for everyone, we must
enforce the law and prioritise diversity in order to make up for past wrongs in America, including
segregation
.
4
.
What affect did Affirmative Action have on the status of minorities and women to obtain a
significant share of leadership roles in American business and the workplace in general
?

2
Because affirmative action
emphasised
the value of equal opportunities for those who
have been mistreated in the past and the need to ensure that everyone is treated equally, it further
had an impact on the position of minorities and women in the American workplace, influencing
their participation in positions of leadership
.
5
.
Does the federal government still need to insure an equal playing field in today's society
?
Although social challenges still arise in modern society, the federal government must
continue to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. For example, many women
still earn less than men, and people of color continue to face daily harassment or discrimination.
Although much progress has been made, our American culture still needs more constructive
adjustments
