a-superfund-sites
The infrastructure law that was signed
by President Biden will have $1 billion set aside to clean up Superfund sites.
Thousands of Superfund sites exist across the country and many have not
been cleaned up due to a previous lack of funding.
Many of the sites that have not been addressed are in underserved communities.

$1T infrastructure bill gets first action as senators dig in
. (2021, August 2). Boston Herald. https://www.bostonherald.com/2021/08/02/1t-
infrastructure-bill-gets-first-action-as-senators-
dig-in/
The legislation process for the infrastructure bill is well under way.
Some Republicans are for it and some
say they need more time to review the
bill.
Concerns remain about how to pay for
the infrastructure bill.
PART B: Connection to Module Focus
Select one key point of one article. Connect this key point to one idea from the module. Make
sure you write a clear paragraph
.
Example: The article from NPR discusses how the infrastructure bill signed by President Biden will fund the cleanup of Superfund sites, areas where hazardous waste is not cleaned up by the companies who created the waste. This connects to the module focus of bureaucracy because the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), part of the federal bureaucracy, is in charge of cleaning up Superfund sites across the United States. For many years, the EPA has not had the funding to clean all of the sites that need attention. For example, the Scovill Industries Landfill in Connecticut has required support with cleanup since
2017 and has been a contaminated area ever since then. With these new funds from the infrastructure bill, the EPA will be able to pursue cleanup of many languishing Superfund sites
around the country. PART C: Compare and Contrast the Articles
Compare and contrast the two articles you selected. What was the same? What was
different? Make sure you write a clear paragraph
.
Example: The article from NPR and the article from The Boston Herald both discuss the infrastructure bill working its way through Congress, but these articles are largely different because they discuss two separate issues surrounding the bill. First, the NPR article focuses on how the infrastructure bill will be spent on one particular ongoing environmental issue in the United States: unclean Superfund sites. The bill will provide funding to address the backlog of Superfund sites that are still full of hazardous waste. In contrast, The Boston Herald article spends more time discussing the politics surrounding the bill and the financing

of all the projects. For example, this bill is a bipartisan effort, meaning that both Republican and Democratic politicians participated in writing the bill. While both articles discuss the infrastructure bill, they focus on two different issues, highlighting the differences between reporting from left and right leaning news sources.
