(50 pts) Based on your research, answer the following questions: a. Summarize your Representatives performance in the most recent election, as compared to his/her previous elections? If your Representative is new, compare to prior election results. Randy Weber raised the most money in the 2012 election. In the 2022 election he came very close to beating his 2012 number but could not. In all six of his elections he raised a lot more money than his competitors and has won six out of six elections. b. Summarize patterns that you see regarding funding and contributions for your Representative. Do you see any connections to: (A) Committee Appointments, (B) Professional connections, AND/OR Party Affliations? Randy Weber gets most of his contributions from the industries that are on his priority list for helping. He also gets a large chuck of his funding from the republican/conservative industry. The part he affiliates with h=give him a large sum of money to fund his campaign. Randy owns an air conditioning business so I do not see any professional connections that largely give to his campaign. c. How do you feel about your Representative’s Top Contributors and the potential impact it may have on legislative action by your Member? Are there any pieces of legislation your Representative has worked on (sponsor/co-sponsor) that seem to benefit your Representative’s Top Contributors? The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is the top contributor to Randy’s last election. They meet regularly with congress to discussion matters with Israel. I do not feel super passionate about issues like this. This contribution may have helped him win his last election. He works on many national defense issues which may be why the AIPAC fund his campaign so heavily.

d. What has this assignment taught you about your representative and funding? This has taught me that money does help you win an election. Having ample amounts of funding puts you so far of your opponent that they don’t really have a chance if they do not have much funding. Money is super important in running for office. People who run for office and don’t have ample amount of funding don’t make it very far. If you really believe in an individual that is running for office contribute to them every little bit helps. This could give them a leg up in that election.
