1- EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION: What relationships do you notice between this law
and what you know about Edward Bernay's techniques? This is the linchpin of this
assignment and what connects the topic with Edward Bernay's research. Because I have
been at this business thing longer than you, I will give you a hint: Let's say Bernay's is
"psychology of influence". How does this play into what the law allows?
The techniques of Edward Bernay are focused on intelligent and conscious
manipulation of viewpoints that individuals hold regarding certain parties or
groups. In a democratic system, these viewpoints are molded and governed. On the
other hand, citizens united also have a strong influence on the elections or can
regulate elections by promoting free speech. In this sense, both of these terms are
interrelated as they can play a vital role in the political system. The techniques of
Edward Bernay allow a small group to elect officials by providing money and by
changing the mindset of the masses in support of a particular party.
2-In this country, laws are written to benefit the people, right? Say yes if you agree. If you disagree, say no and explain why supporting your position with logic, examples and evidence.
Yes, I agree with this statement that laws are actually formulated to support
individuals and society as a whole. The rules defined by laws regulated the entire
community by defining principles that must be followed.
3-Similar to the previous question, the United States is a democracy (federal democratic republic). Does this law benefit democracy (a system of government by the whole population... , typically through elected representatives.)? Explain.
No, it harms democracy. Since the Citizens United ruling, affluent individuals, corporations,
and special interest groups have dramatically increased their influence over elections, which has had negative repercussions for American democracy and the battle against political corruption.

4-Does this law benefit you?
Explain your answer
No, it doesn't, as I hold my public opinion, which is not influenced by any group that
is running a campaign on behalf of some political party, and neither am I a part of
such group.
5-This law involves freedom of speech. Based on the decision, do you believe that you have
the "same amount" or freedom of speech as everyone else in this country? Explain your answer.
Yes, I believe I have the same amount of freedom of speech as anyone has in this
country because I can analyze the performance of all the political parties and then
select one according to my choice of casting a vote instead of being influenced by
some group.
6-This law allows foreign (non USA entities) to influence elections in the U.S. True? False? Explain your answer.
Yes, it is true. The foreign entities with handsome funding can have serious
implications for US elections as, with the help of money, they can bring a
representative of their own choice to US congress, which can affect laws and
policies.
ALEC
1.
What does any of this have to do with business?
ALEC works like a lobby group to change the rights to benefit corporations in the
United States. They defend the companies’ rights, and they work to make them easier and better. ALEC has a huge impact on economics because when they fight

for the company’s rights, they are helping them to make more profit and to give them better opportunities.
2- Does ALEC benefit business
ALEC benefit businesses for sure because they fight for their rights and for better legislatures. Because they craft business policies that reflect the business interest of corporate members.
3- What does this have to do with you and other citizens of this country?
Usually, if you are a business owner, as a citizen it will help me as an organization to create or pass laws that might come to my own benefit. But if I am an employee, I don’t think this organization will be affecting me. Also, when you help businesses to become bigger and to expand more, you are increasing capitalism, and making a huge gap because you are making the rich richer
4-
Does ALEC benefit you? Does it improve your quality of life? Yes, or no.
Explain.
It depends on the law LEC is trying to pass. But usually, these organizations focus more on helping businesses to expand and make more profit than helping individuals. Covid 19 case was already a huge proof. During covid, big companies made huge profits, but small businesses had to close or lose a lot of money. Also, for a business to expand and really grow, business owners usually try to make the most out of their employees while they use them without raising salaries. So, these organizations don’t usually help citizens, but they help business owners.
5-
The United States is a democracy (federal democratic republic).
Does ALEC benefit democracy (a system of government by the whole population... , typically through elected representatives.)?
Explain.
Alec doesn’t benefit democracy. The laws this nonprofit was trying to make, limit our democratic rights: like the right to protest. They are also attacking the tax system where the wealthy benefit the most.
6- Who are or who is responsible for the legislation in the States that are restricting voting?
Republican lawmakers over the past year have been pushing bill to restrict access to right to vote, bills that make it harder to Americans to vote. The voter ID act, which imposes a variety of rules and regulations based on the requirement for an ID to vote, was heavily influenced by ALEC.
7- What connection do you see amongst Edward Bernay's techniques (or philosophy), Citizen's United decision, and ALEC?

All of these organizations have one thing in common: propaganda and influence. Especially political influence. Because business usually works on these facts to control and to make changes that are suitable for them.
