Describe the difference between "winner-take-all" and "proportional
representation" systems. Which system do you prefer?
The winner-takes-all and proportional representation systems are different systems used
to elect representatives. There are a couple of differences between the two electoral
systems even though the winner-takes-all all tends to be the most common within most
elections. Winner-takes-all means a single representative is elected while the other
candidates running against said representative get nothing in return. Hence the name,
winner takes all. With proportional representation systems, on the other hand, multiple
representatives are elected. Within each district, multiple representatives are elected
and the distribution of the seats is determined by the amount of votes received by each
party. Out of both of these systems, I prefer proportional representation systems. I say
this because, this type of electoral system, offers a great amount of diversity of parties
represented in government. A great amount of different opinions allows a great amount
of viewpoints to be reflected in discussion to allow a throughout review of certain votes
put in play.
