and containment that characterized the Cold War and the

1.
How have historical events influenced the move from a primarily isolationist American foreign policy to
more of a world power? After WW1& WW2 it was clear we were involved in world events whether we
like it or not, the oceans don’t keep us from the threats. The Cold War really kicked off our need to
remain in world politics in order to “combat” communism and Soviet influence. As other crises have
arisen, the need to remain involved has stayed (economic interests, globalization, Covid, humanitarian
interventions)
2.
How do you think the United States should prioritize international issues? National security is at the top
of my list too… we need to make sure that we address threats and the safety of our citizens first which
would include issues from technology and cybersecurity to border security, etc. Global stability and
economic stability go hand-in-hand as we cannot trade with unstable countries or countries dealing with
neighboring issues. Goal is to keep local conflicts there and that they don’t spread to another world war I
would like to add on if our national security is very high we will guarantee destroy any invasion.

How did the Marshall Plan mark a shift in American foreign policy as the United States became a
leading world power? It was in response to concerns that the war time in Euorope and the financial
destitution of the continent mightve led to the rise of communism in the region, jeopardize US access to
European markets and potentially lead to world wide economic instability. Which could lead to another
war; this was considrerd the first major succesful foreign aid project in US history.
5. Military Presence

1.
How did the shift from Cold War tensions to concerns about global terrorism change American foreign
policy in the 1990s and early 2000s? The Bush Doctrine, a new foreign policy and security strategy
emphasized the strategic doctrine of preemption. The right of self-defense would be extended to the use
of preemptive attacks against potential enemies, attacking them before they were deemed capable of
launching strikes against the United States. Under the doctrine, furthermore, the United States reserved
the right to pursue unilateral military action if multilateral solutions could not be found.

I think the lowest should should be pressuring a country to prevent hackers from doing what they do I
say this because they will always find a work around and half the time the government wants that.
Next is the television ads to support another candidate regardless if you do this many political
leaders will falsify records to win elections.
I think next is the money to a poor country its a good
one as your preventing any future outbreaks but the other ones are still important. Spend money to
develop new tech is better as it strengthens your ability to actually prevent any more leaders in
developing nuclear weapons if you have good military power you automatically should frighten any
dictators. Lastly the most important is the nuclear weapons with dictators they dont go well together
and the developing new tech is helping out with it.
9. Think about what you already know about to answer the supporting question.

I think that yes we are crucial in international affairs and whatever is going on in other countries. I
guess you can say they look up to us as the parents of them? Like a kid asking what he should do for
his project. Many countries lack insight of a good political system because unfortunately the political
leaders rig every or almost every election and thats where we step in. We can look at 3rd world
countries most went from I guess dictators or soon to be dictator states to democratic parties
because of us I guess them also applying to join Nato is another step. When the small countries join
Nato they are considered crucial in the way the Nato organization runs which is off topic but the
United States makes up 99% of Nato and they are everywhere so yea the US is influential.
