Code of Ethics sets out the ethical values that guide the professional practice of RECEs.
A.
Responsibilities to Children
B.
Responsibilities to Families
C.
Responsibilities to Colleagues and to the Profession
D.
Responsibilities to the Community and to the public
Standards of practice outline the expectations regarding knowledge, skills and actions in six key
areas.
1.
Caring and Responsive Relationships
2.
Curriculum and Pedagogy
3.
Safety, Health and Well-Being in the Learning Environment
4.
Professionalism and Leadership
5.
Professional Boundaries, Dual Relationships and Conflicts of Interest
6.
Confidentiality, Release of Information and Duty to Report
Each of the six Standards of Practice has three elements
Principle
- Serves as an important summary of each standard that RECEs must demonstrate in
order to practice the profession.
Knowledge
- Identifies the knowledge related to each standard that RECEs must have in order to
practice the profession.
Practice
- The skills, actions and behaviors related to each standard that RECEs must
demonstrate in order to practice the profession.
Four ethics and six professional standards are interconnected, and taken together, they support
RECEs in using their professional judgment and making ethical decisions in their daily practice.
The purpose of the CPL Portfolio is to ensure RECE’s reflect on their practice and plan for,
engage in and document professional learning experiences linked to the Code of Ethics and
Standards of Practice.
The profession:
Professionalism is grounded in ethical values and refers to the knowledge, skills and judgement
in the best interest of the children and families. Professionalism is demonstrated through
relationships with children, families and colleagues and accountability to the public and the
profession.
Professionalism: Use of titles
