Ethical Adventure
When I initially came to America in 2011, I worked in a little Italian restaurant. Nothing unusual
was observed by me when I first started working there. We prepared, cooked, and served meals as part
of our everyday duties. We were instructed to always wear gloves and hair nets and to wash and
disinfect our hands frequently. After a few weeks on the job, I observed that a large number of workers
arrived at work feeling ill. They told me that our supervisor threatened to fire them if they didn't show
up, which is why they came to work despite feeling sick. We dealt with both food and clients.
Nobody
ought to arrive at work unwell. Two days later, two additional coworkers—possibly even customers—
became ill.
How Difficult Options Would Affect Outcome
Going to my boss was tough for me since I didn’t want to face backlash or be shunned. I considered
more ways to help, but I needed my employment since I had to send money home to Nigeria. I made the
decision to encourage my friends to act morally. I assisted them in comprehending FDA rules and
regulations pertaining to health and safety. I couldn’t just stand by and watch since someone’s health
might have been at danger. Of course, I had to take action.
Some External Factor That Impacted My Decision
The health of the people placing the meal orders was the primary external element in my decision. If
someone contracted food poisoning, I would take personal responsibility for it as it was my moral duty to
make sure our food goods were supplied properly. Customers’ well-being is crucial for the restaurant’s
reputation as well as its bottom line. I was not interested in losing my job.
If I would have been given more time to make your decision, how would this change your
approach or outcome?
In addition to continuing to couch my peers regardless of their opinions, if I had had more time
to consider my options, I would have prepared a typewritten letter to corporate. I put off taking action

for so long because I was worried about losing my job or having my hours reduced. It complicated my
decision-making process and prolonged the time it took me to take action. Since the franchise and
restaurant prioritize the health and safety of their patrons, if I could go back, I would take action much
sooner.
