After you pick your topic, create a question 1) Feeding the Poor 2) Father’s Consent for Abortion 3) Is war just or unjust? 4) Homelessness 5) Provide Free Healthcare for All 6) Provide a high minimum wage 7) Assault weapons and gun rights? SLIDE TWO Stakeholder – Who are the stakeholders for your topic : List all the stakeholders that are impacted by the moral decision. What social rules (social contracts-formal or informal) are relevant in your topic? Help people, not help people, etc. SLIDE THREE Historical Context and Structural Framework: What historical context is relevant for your moral dilemma? List some historical information or relevant historical events that you think are significant to the current understanding of the current social norms, rules, laws, and historical social rules (Are they different now compared to the past)? SLIDE FOUR Cultural and Social Context: What cultural religions, rules, laws, norms, or social contracts do you think are significant to your moral dilemma? Why do we not feed the poor? Why do we deny a father's rights to an unborn child? Etc.? What social or cultural rules, norms, laws, or taboos are considered significant? SLIDE FIVE Civil Disobedience: Are any of the laws, social contracts, or rules unjust (for any stakeholders)? Do the laws favor the majority or minority? Do any of the laws, norms, rules, or social contracts require protest from any populations or stakeholders involved? (Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., Thoreau) SLIDE SIX Egoism: Based on ethical or psychological Egoism, what is the moral solution for your moral dilemma question? What would be some of the objections to your moral solution based on egoism?
SLIDE SEVEN Utilitarianism: Based on Utilitarianism, what is the moral solution for your moral dilemma question? What would of the objections be to your moral solution based on utilitarianism? SLIDE EIGHT Altruism: Based on Altruism, what is the moral solution for your moral dilemma question? What objections can be made to altruism as your moral solution for your moral dilemma? SLIDE NINE Moral Solutions Social: Can you see an objective moral solution that a rational person will find mutually beneficial for all stakeholders? What moral obligations did you find that can be universalized as a moral standard to answer your moral dilemma question? Are everyone’s basic needs met equally with your solution (consider Rachels 6.1 and 6.3 in your analysis)? How does your solution fit with Rawls’ Theory of Justice? SLIDE TEN Conclusion: Answer your moral dilemma question that can be a compromised social contract rule? If any stakeholder must compromise, are their moral rights still supported by your social contract rule? Does the social contract solve the problem? Who should decide any disagreements for your topic (government, people, culture, judges, etc.)? List three questions for others to consider about your moral solution. References: You can include a slide for any links you would like to reference for your Power Point; however, you are not required to cite anything for this presentation and can use direct content in your slides.
