List and describe three major challenges the Christian community faced in the New Testament era. What was the nature of the Messiah? This was the identification and coming to a definition of who the Messiah was What was the relationship between Judaism and the Jesus movement? This meant that original Christians were Jews. Jewish followers of Jesus and Jewish opponents of Jesus are seen in the New Testament as vying against one another over important claims How Should the Jesus movement proceed into the future? After the death of Jesus and the first apostles, questions arose about the nature and structure of the Christian community 2. What sorts of questions should one ask when considering Christian thought from a historical point of view? Asking questions about the transition from Judaism to Christianity and how they relate and transformed into different religions would be gaining a historical perspective of Christianity. 3. Name and describe the sources or foundations of Christian theology. What are some ways in which they intersect or overlap? The three foundations of Christian theology are tradition, reason and experience. These overlap in a way that there couldn’t be one without the other in the context of Christianity. 4. Describe the role of tradition in Christian theology. How would you differentiate between formal and informal aspects of this tradition? In Christianity, there are traditions that will never change, and there are traditions that have evolved over time. Some traditions are set in stone forever by Christianity, but some have been altered. This would make some traditions formal and some more informal. 5. How is experience both a source and a gauge for theological insight? Experience when used as a gauge for truth, it becomes a vital tool for the application of faith in everyday life.
