Week 1 Intro Hello Class, It is nice to meet everyone! My name is Jessica Drake, and I live about 20 miles west of Milwaukee, Wi. I am 2 classes away from obtaining a degree in Organizational Leadership. With that, I am excited and eager to be so close to ending this chapter in my academic journey. Identify three out of five skills or competencies you have acquired through participation in general education courses that will help you meet your academic and career goals. 1. Apply ethical theory and moral reasoning to academic knowledge and societal concerns. 2. Utilize principles of critical thinking in problem-solving. 3. Communicate through investigative research and writing. Describe your three chosen skills and explain which activities, assignments, or courses helped you acquire them. 1. Ethics and moral reasoning have been re-enforced and a part of every class I have taken at UAGC. As the world has evolved, we are faced with moral and ethical dilemmas, and understanding moral reasoning and ethical theories has allowed me to grow in these areas and expand my knowledge. Ethical theories provide perspectives on evaluating morality and supporting judgments. Moral reasoning evaluates facts, values, and effects of actions, aligning with moral principles. It helps resolve ethical disputes, avoid mistakes, and promote ethical behavior. Most classes address ethical and moral issues, forcing individuals to examine their beliefs and decide if they are correct or incorrect. This process is essential for avoiding moral blunders and promoting ethical behavior. 2. Utilize principles of critical thinking in problem-solving emphasizes the importance of asking questions, describing problems, reviewing facts, avoiding bias, and oversimplification. It also highlights the development of communication skills, writing abilities, and decision-making abilities in school, job, and personal life. 3. Communicate through investigative research and writing. In all classes, I conducted research using techniques taught through my journey, which has drastically improved my research and communication skills. I am confidently able to provide knowledge-based information backed by extensive research and reliable data, enhancing my writing ability to create arguments based on my understanding of specific events or scenarios.
Identify a global societal issue from the following list that you would consider researching further for your Week 5 Final Paper: o International drug trafficking Describe effective methods you used in identifying and narrowing down to just one of the topics to further research for your Final Paper. I began by removing topics that I was not as interested in, which left me with a list of four topics that I had interest in. From there, I wrote out all four topics, and tried to think of subtopics for each topic, which is a best practice provided from The Writing Center (2023). Then I reviewed scholarly articles on each of the four topics, assessed their relevance to real problems, and considered the accessibility of academic materials. From there I was able to narrow it down to one topic that had significant scholarly sources. Explain three ways you can critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly. Here are some of the ways I will use to determine if an article is scholarly: 1. Include the author(s) name, institution, and scholarly credentials. 2. Use technical or specialized language in the article. 3. Published in academic journals, indicating they are written for professionals. 4. Use charts, graphs, or diagrams to communicate research results. 5. Be long (5 or more pages) and include a bibliography. 6. Include references to the sources cited or a bibliography. 7. Be aware of the title of the article, as it suggests it is written for professionals (n.d.). Summarize information from at least two scholarly journal articles from the UAGC Library that will support your claims for your chosen topic. The article by Szigeti et al. (2023), COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the rise in illicit drug trafficking on darknet markets. This study examines vendors' services, reputations, product advertising, and customer values. A qualitative content analysis was conducted on a sample of products from Dark0de Reborn. Vendors provided basic information about drugs, high quality, speed, and delivery. Customers praised the product's quality, speed, and packaging, but expressed only a few issues. The study highlights the importance of understanding these factors in the darknet market. The article by Anderson and Kavanaugh (2017), reviews studies that show women's powerlessness in illegal drug markets, contrasting with domineering males. The interplay between legal and illegal channels in the U.S. necessitates a rethinking of the drugs-crime relationship. The article explores how 21st-century trends might alter the gendered nature of drug selling, focusing on women's involvement in newer markets and their differences from men. The article emphasizes the importance of gender scholarship in research and policy on drugs and crime.
Explain why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic. References to scholarly sources enhance the quality of academic papers and research projects, promoting academic integrity by acknowledging and promoting the scholarship and findings of subject matter experts. By using evidence from scholarly sources in your own paper, you can ensure the credibility, scholarly nature, and rigorous evaluation of the information (2021). Jessica Anderson, T.
