Given your understanding of the five branches of philosophy, with which theory do you personally identify? How has this theory helped shape your understanding of higher education from a student or professional perspective?
Politics I think one of the most challenging jobs in the world has to be a politician. You have to be fair, implement change but keep traditions going. Politicians seem to have a “dirty or crooked” personality. So why do these individuals have a hand in education? Just take a look at what has happened since the pandemic began in 2020. As someone who has worked in the education field for over ten years, we had to wait for politicians and higher-ups to inform us if
we were holding classes remote or in person, if we had to wear a mask or not, and if we had to
get the vaccine. What if you are against the vaccine? We have Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago telling us to go to school, whereas doctors tell us not to send our children to school, so who do we listen to?
As the daughter of a retired teacher, I was curious to know how my mom felt. Before I asked her, I told her if I were a parent, I would be listening to the doctors and the science. She agreed. I understand we want to keep students safe, but if you attend a smaller school with fewer students, can the school stay open then? How do we provide our teachers with better materials and resources to teach remote? Politics tells you how a society must be set up and how one should act within a society (Landauer & Rowlands, 2001).
