This topic for discussion is intriguing because I've recently been spending a lot of time with my four-year-old nephew Juju. Let me just add that he won't eat anything at all if he
doesn't eat pizza or McDonald's! He is still a child, so I'm not sure if he is a picky eater or if he is just unwilling to try new things. I do know that, at this young age, all he expects from his parents is that they will continue to purchase him fast food. The restaurant itself, in my opinion, is less to blame for the health of the kids there than their parents' decision to take them. I am aware that certain establishments do provide healthy options. For instance, with a McDonald's happy meal, you can choose apples and juice instead of fries and soda. Moreover, you can get a yogurt parfait or smoothie in instead of ice cream or shakes. So let's discuss whether it should be illegal for fast food businesses to serve toys with children's meals. I disagree that fast food establishments should be prohibited from handing away toys. Children may be thrilled to
consume their food because they know they will receive a toy, or they may not care at all. My nephew only wants to eat his meal; he never plays with the toy. My final observation is that parents are in charge of what their children eat, and it starts as soon as they are born. A child will only come to expect fast food if it is consumed on a regular
basis. Parents should make good decisions for their kids and occasionally treat them to a happy meal or other fast food place.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Explain your selection here in one paragraph. How did your posting contribute to the understanding of course concepts?
This discussion board is from week 5 topic on how much responsibility do fast food restaurants have on children. I chose this discussion because I believed I was able to answer the question in a way my audience will be able to understand. I had given an example of my nephew and how fast food has played a role in his life that my peers were able to relate too. Most of my peers had commented back on their little cousins or brothers/sisters going through the same experience. Paste Selection 2 here:
Playing sports is something that has always been in my family and I had first started playing softball around 4 years old. I had played until I was 19 years old, I even had gotten a scholarship for playing softball, unfortunately my career ended due to a shoulder injury. Reflecting back on playing sports there are definitely pros and cons, but
I did not see the cons til later in life. I was on a travel team very early on, which was very competitive and we did do a lot of traveling. Travel ball was very intense, I would sometimes play 3-6 games a day, have to wake up at 5-6am some days, and if we weren’t playing then it was 6-8 hours of team practice. Adding on, if it wasn’t team practice then it was practice on your own or having fielding and hitting lessons; That was my life everyday consisted of softball and its crazy to think that was my whole life and it started when I was around 10. I am thankful for playing softball, I think it made me
into the person I am today. Playing sports has taught me many things one of them being
time management, I think that is one of the biggest takeaway I’ve gotten. I am on time everywhere I go and I even like to be there 10-15 minutes before anything. Another skill is being discipline and working hard for everything. If I wanted to get better at something, I had to keep practicing until I was confident in that area, which applies to me in everything in life. Furthermore, playing sports allowed me to be active and to keep
my body moving. Playing sports improves eye-coordination and our gross/fine-motor skills, if anything I think it is a fastest/easiest way to get kids to move and improve their skills. The downside was all that moving and practicing puts a toll on your body. I had gotten so many injuries over the years: I’ve sprain both of my ankles more than once, I’ve gotten hit in the shins, and even taken a ball to the face, which was terrible. However, those are risks you take while playing sports. When I have kids, I will definitely be putting them in sports because I’ve seen it for myself the positive benefits it
has especially at a young age.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a
living sacrifice
, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Explain your selection here in one paragraph. How did your posting contribute to the understanding of course concepts?
This is my discussion post from week 6 on the importance of kids playing in an organized sports team. This was one of my favorite topics to write about because I was able to connect to the topic. Playing sports was a huge part of my life ever since I was younger. I believe that the strengthens and skills I have now like being disciplined, responsible, and having good time management have all developed from playing sports.
I was able to give my own personal experience that allowed my audience to understand how important playing sports was for me and how it can benefit other people. Part II
In Part II, paste two (2) postings written by other people (not yourself or the professor), which you feel contributed to your own deeper understanding in this course. Again, for each, write a paragraph explaining your selection.

Alannah M. Ballew
Discussion 7
I think encouraging children to be physically active all starts in the home, children observe and watch their
parents even when they don't think they are. If they see their parents constantly moving and doing activities when they grow up, they are going to want to be active. On the other hand, if they constantly watch their parents watching tv, laying around, and constantly in the house they'll be more inclined to stay
at home and not want to be active. This is just one example of how adults can persuade children without trying. If children are already active, they're going to want to be with their friends and do what their friends
are doing. For example, in both of the classes that I assist in, I have several students who are involved in softball, baseball, and soccer and they are on teams with their friends in school. It helps them continue because they want to stay in touch with their friends. However, to encourage a child who is less active, make it fun. Being active doesn't necessarily mean you have to be on a team with other classmates or people, make up a game and be excited about it. Children are like sponges, they soak up what is around them and if something is fun, they're most likely going to want to continue it. "For this reason, it says "Awake sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine in you." Ephesians 5:14. I thought this verse was compatible with this topic if we continue to be active in all aspects of our lives, He will be the light in you."
Explain your selection here in one paragraph. How did this posting contribute to your understanding of course concepts?
I chose discussion board #7 from my peer Alannah. Her post stood out to me because of one point she had made that encouraging physical activity with children starts with their parents. I was able to relate to this because my parents would try to encourage physical activity, but never exercise themselves. On the other hand, my friend’s parents were super active, which allowed my friend to be active and enjoy physical activity. Adding on, her examples and experiences allowed me to get a better understanding of the topic.

Discussion 5
Hello everyone and happy fifth week of the course!
This week's discussion topic is really intriguing to me so I am glad to read through each discussion to hear different thoughts and ideas about fast food. Fast food is often very appealing to young children and adults for various reasons such as, the convenience and low prices. Most often children do not understand the effects of having a poor diet or the importance of healthly choices, fast food is always fun for children, especially if it is treated as a "treat" or something to which only occurs every so often. I would
agree that fast food does play responsibility on children's health due to how their relationship is with fast food, rather the parents go out to eat often, the child will grow and this would be a normailized diet. In some cases where the family does not often go out to eat and it's treated as a occasional meal, it can still play a responsibility on the health of the child, as the child could have a healtier diet. I do not think fast food chains should be banned from giving toys in the kid's meals, simply because the toys are not what is
brining in families to eat fast food, the cause of poor diets is due to the food not toys. Society can help to promote healthy lifestyles by adding fruit and yogurt to meals insead of fatty food such as fries. Also, by giving a fruit in each meal. "Nurturing yourself is not selfish- it's essential to your survival and your well-
being." -Renee Peterson Trudean This quote relates to the topic of our discussion board as providing your body with the correct nutrious is important for well-being and growth.
Explain your selection here in one paragraph. How did this posting contribute to your understanding of course concepts?
This post is from Harley in week 5 topic on fast food restaurants. I chose Harley’s
post because her response was interesting and refreshing. She had made a lot of points
that I agree with. For example, stating how toys should not be banned because the toys are not what is bringing the families to eat at such places. She had also given other examples of how fast foods can swap poor food with healthier ones. The quote she used has also stood out to me and how important it is for us to eat healthier. Part III
In Part III, calculate the number of points you have earned for your last three discussion board postings.
You are assessing your work for the last three discussion board postings, either for Weeks 1 through 3 or Weeks 5 through 7. The initial posting, and two required responses to classmates, are worth 20 points for each week, for a total of 60 points in all.
The only way to earn 20 points for each of the weeks is if your initial posting is on time (no later than Friday evening at midnight), at least one page (about 250 words, please do a word count to verify), free of spelling and grammatical errors, and includes a faith integration or research component. In addition, your two responses must also have
been submitted by Sunday at midnight and be free of grammatical errors. The word count for both responses combined should be around 250 words. You cannot receive any credit for discussion board postings later than one week. If you have not met these requirements for full credit, calculate your points as follows:
Week 1:
Start with 20 points
Week 2:

Below, please explain briefly how you calculated your points for each week.
*Please note that I reserve the right to enter a different amount of points for your discussion board grade if
I determine the totals have been calculated incorrectly.
I have scored myself a 60/60 because I believed I have done everything that was asked
in the instructions. All my post have been on time, have reached the word count, responded to my peers on time, and included relevant faith integration component. I had
answered each prompt thoroughly and clearly so that my peers would be able to understand; For this reason, I believed I have deserved the scored of 60/60.
If desired, please share any other thoughts or ideas, such as feedback for your professor on discussion board prompts, or ideas for improving your discussion board grade for next time.
Thank you for your discussion board participation! Together we can improve everyone’s
experience and learning in the course.
