Scenario One - The survival of a particular political community itself is at stake. (Types of political communities might be nation-states, fundamentalist organizations, religious communities, or political parties.) In this instance, is it ethically permissible to use any means necessary to fight for it? Explain why you think the action proposed in your chosen scenario is or is not ethically permissible. - Within my chosen scenario, I believe that it is ethically permissible to do any means necessary to fight for it. In the sense of a nation’s state, an example would be the state of Texas attempting to secure the US/Mexico border. I believe that by doing all things necessary in order to keep the safety and well being others, is something that is extremely important. The unknown is the biggest concern of a situation like this. It situations of a nations-state it runs the risk of running out of resources, causing crime rates to increase, and the increase in taxes. Describe how your culture influences your opinion about this. - My cultural influences my opinion about this scenario because of the importance I place on family. With not only the increase of crime-rates, but the lack of available resources, creating the risk of running out or not having access to the needed resources that my family needs. The importance that I place on family, my family especially means that I would fight for all things necessary not matter the importance. My opinion about fighting for any means necessary is represented through my cultural importance of family. Explain how your ethical frameworks influence your opinion about this. - The ethical framework that influences my opinion is Utilitarianism : This is because of the importance of doing what is always right. Utilitarianism focuses on doing the right thing to larger amount of people. By this framework, fighting for something by any means necessary discusses the issue of what is going to be beneficial to larger amount of people. In this case, if a nations- state has a large amount of people and is being threated in some way, and fighting by any means necessary is the ethical thing to do. This being that if larger amount of people will benefit, it is something that should be considered when it comes to discussing the issue.
