International terrorism is Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups who are inspired by, or associated with, designated foreign terrorist organizations or nations
(2016). These terrorist activities are acts of terrorism that transcend national borders, characterized by non-conventional tactics, intentional victimization of specific individuals or groups, and the geographic locations where the perpetrators conduct their operations (n.d.)

Domestic terrorism is Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature (2016). According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, terrorism is characterized as the unlawful utilization of physical force or aggression against individuals or property to instill fear and compel compliance from a governing body, the general populace, or a specific portion of society, with the aim of advancing political or social objectives (2016). These definitions give different types of terrorism in a break down format. The idea that it can cross national borders with intentional victimization and then it can be stemming from things like political or religious beliefs. The domestic terrorism definition to me is more logical and gives a good break down of the various natures of terrorism. The issue of varying definitions for terrorism arises from the tactics of terrorist groups, who seek to delegitimize any definition that does not align with their own extremist ideology. A universal definition of violent extremism that is universally accepted and implemented by all nations would be the ideal solution. However, the reality is that each country operates differently,
with different languages, priorities, and political climates. While it is true that most definitions of
terrorism center around acts of violence against authority or society, there may be differences in underlying motivations and intentions in specific cases. Therefore, it is important for nations to work together to find a common understanding and approach to combatting terrorism and violent
extremism.
DHS has several goals to include Preventing terrorists and other hostile actors from entering the United States and deny them the opportunity to exploit the Nation’s trade, immigration, and domestic and international travel systems (2019). These definitions play a crucial role in the operations of DHS as they are responsible for protecting the nation from terrorist acts. By having a comprehensive understanding of each definition and when it applies, DHS can better identify and prevent acts of terrorism. The use of a single, universal definition would greatly benefit DHS, as it would eliminate any confusion or discrepancies across different borders and aid in a more cohesive and effective approach to managing terrorism. This highlights
the importance of standardization and clear communication within DHS to ensure the safety and security of the country.
My definition would consist of sections to describe all parts of terrorism. Terrorism is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, but at its core, it involves the use of violence or threats of violence by individuals or groups to achieve their political, religious, or ideological goals. It is
often characterized by premeditation and organization, as well as targeting civilians and non-
combatants to instill fear and disrupt societal norms. Terrorism can take many forms, from bombings and shootings to cyber-attacks and propaganda campaigns. This definition breakdown would hopefully capture the essence of terrorism, emphasizing the intentional use of violence and coercion to further specific beliefs or agendas.
