Angela Elder Current event Week 8 What is the gospel view of debt, money management, self-reliance, etc.? Debt- one scripture that comes to my mind every time I hear about debt is “pay the dept and release thyself from bondage.” D&C19:35 Dept create enemies with others and within ourselves. We need to make sure that we pay all our debt. We need to free ourselves. And you can see in our nation that we are in a sense ties to our enemies and right now forever in the bondage in a sense. Money management- The church as an entire finance guidance book ( One for the money guide to family finance by elder Marvin j Ashton) to be able to have self-money management, it is a basic life skill that we need to all have as well be teaching to our children. The church strongly encourages to have a budget plan and be able to have a handle on our finances. Self-reliance- Is define as “the ability, commitment and effort to provide the spiritual and temporal necessities of life for self and family ( general handbook) We need to be able to have self reliance to be able keep working our way down our convents path. What have Church leaders taught on this subject? One of my favorite books to turn to is the one for money guide book, it is useful and gives us so many tools for us to use. The church teaches us to be aware of our money and finances, to keep record and to review monthly, both income and expensive. If there need to be adjust then, we need to do so , we need to determine and reduce. There need to be a family budget in the household and finances should me taught and learn about through all members of the household. Are debt change be becoasue of providing a household and/or for education and any debt we create should be paid of fast.
How do wise financial and work practices lead us closer to our divine potential? When we have wise financial and work practices it helps us lead closer to our divine potential by allowing us to go in the direction we are suppose to be. When we have self reliance, determination and obedience we are able to follow the path the leads us closer to our heavenly father allowing us to line up with our divine potential, our plan of happiness. When we teach good financial practices in our family in helps create and understanding and leaves the room for understanding what hard work is and how to be frugality and know how to save. The creates a solid foundation for our family to be able to build our eternal home on and for. How do Church officials treat tithing and other offerings as they collect and then spend them? Tithing is the lord’s law of finance for his church. Tithing is used for the purpose of the lord. This can be building and maintaining temples, church buildings, supports the local church congregations and supporting the programs of the church, education and the family history research. Fast offering is to help the poor and needy, this is usually the value of two meals. These funds provide shelter, food and other necessities to people locally and world wide. How do these principles apply to governments and the use of taxpayer money? A principle that needs to be applied is self- reliance, the government has to stop relaying on outside forces and work on there inward and get a budget and find out where they stand and how they are going to go about it to get the untied state out of debt or at least in the correct way. Being able to have a plan is key and then to act accordantly. They would really benefit review the finance guides and tools our church has to offer. Haha but really. Is there anything citizens can do to influence representatives in the way their money is spent? Citizens can start by choosing where they are spending their money and stop spending the money where it will start getting the representatives attention and start getting the aware of the problem.
How to do this I do not know or really know enough about where we can cut back on our funding to make a difference and put our spending somewhere else. I would say maybe more locally than in big corporations would make a difference.
