Critical Thinking Reflection
In a world filled with complexities and challenges, it is essential to develop a skill that
empowers us to navigate through the vast sea of information and make sound decisions. Critical
thinking is the key that unlocks our minds, enabling us to see beyond the surface, question
assumptions, and embrace diverse perspectives.
As stated in one of the articles The ‘new’
knowledge economy has made it so that knowledge acquisition, on its own, is no longer
sufficient for learning—individuals must be able to work with and adapt information through CT
in order to apply it appropriately (Dwyer et al.,2017). It is a transformative process that fuels
intellectual growth and propels us towards success. Critical Thinking is the art of consciousness,
allowing us to evaluate, interpret, and analyze information from multiple angles, while also
empowering us to make informed decisions and contribute meaningfully to our personal and
professional lives
.
To enhance critical thinking, we need to develop and cultivate our critical thinking skills.
As stated in another article
The word desired outcome indicates that critical thinkers are
motivated and have a set of goals such as good career choices or financial settlements. According
to Halpern, someone thinks critically because they have intentions. (Halpern et al.,1998,2014).
We can obtain impeccable critical thinking skills if we apply ourselves through education and
practice, both in academic settings and in our everyday life. Instructional approaches that focus
on argument mapping, analysis, evaluation, and inference have shown positive effects on critical
thinking abilities.
Critical thinking is a cognitive process that involves analyzing, evaluating, and making
reasoned judgments based on real facts. It is characterized by the application of critical thinking
skills in various contexts. Helen Lee Bouygues has pulled together three simple things that we
2
can do to improve our critical thinking skills, Question assumption, Reason through logic,
Diversify thought. Cultivating these three key habits of mind go a long way in helping us
become better at an increasingly desired skill in the job market. (Bouygues et al., 2019) By
actively engaging in critical thinking, we can improve our decision-making abilities and navigate
complex situations more effectively.
