1.
Do you believe in God? If so, can you state reasons for your belief? Do you think your
belief is rational? Would you believe in God whether you had good reasons? Explain
your position on these questions.
I have always believed in God, even if I do not practice the faith like most Catholics.
Since my younger years I have always been surrounded by statues of the Virgin Mary,
catholic crosses, and a painting of angels or Jesus in every room and hallway of my parents’
house. In my upbringing I came to learn the same beliefs and ideas of what and who God is
by my parents.
As it mentions in section 2.1, “you believe what you do because you were
raised that way, trained in a particular faith by your parents or culture” (pg.65). I believe this
to be a truth because when we are young, we are already being taught about religious views
and will believe them until we are old enough to really question it.
I enjoy the thought of having someone that I can pray to, even if some believe that he
does not have time for concerns. There are also things in this world that cannot be explained
scientifically and believe my reason to be rational because a good example would be the
universe. It exists but has not been explained by science without making assumptions and
while we can assume the big bang theory is correct, it is impossible to prove. I would believe
that there is a higher power regardless of if I did not have good reasons.
