Final Project Milestone: Topic Choice Posting
My chosen topic is, Is there such a thing as a “soul”? Everyone’s concept of a soul has
been described in different terms, mythological, philosophical, and theological. It has been
said that everyone has a soul, people, animals, and plants. When it comes to our brain and our
soul there is a difference because the brain is our faculty of thinking and reasoning, while the
soul is our spiritual nature that some refer to as our spirit or essence. There is no scientific
evidence or theories that we have a soul. According to Laitman, it is only a poetic term, not a
scientific one. The idea of us having a soul is popular and possible, but most scientists
believe souls don’t exist. “The burial practices of the ancient Egyptians indicate a belief in a
life after the mortal body was deceased. They had a concept of an entity that was part of the
person but separate from the body. The ancient Greeks believed the soul was an essence of
being that shared the physical body of a human while they were alive, but then separated from
the body enough to exist on its own after the body died” (Ungvarsky, 2022).
Everyone has their own theory about whether we have a soul or not and whether there
is life after death. There is a lot of disagreement on this belief and when our soul became a
part of our body, but no scientific facts to support these theories. According to some
scientists, we can attain the revelation to our souls while we are still alive by building
connections between us to the same extent of love and bestowal that exists in the soul. I still
believe that the soul is an object of one’s belief and has never been scientifically proven that
we have a soul or that there is life after death. “By transforming egoism into altruism, we
attain the soul, and by attaining the soul, we experience life in its harmonious and eternal
state” (Laitman, 1995).
