1.) Please describe a time when your previous assumptions were challenged? How did you handle the situation and overcome the misconception? One chat with my fiancé stands out in my mind. Both of us independently received false information from a third party, which led to the misunderstanding. Thankfully, I could recognize the manipulative and deceptive nature of the other party's objectives. So, when things began to heat up, I knew when to tell my fiancé what was happening. We were both curious and eager to hear the other side of the story because rumors are nasty business. It came out that this third party was interested in my fiancé and had been for years. She acted like my friend, only to get close to me and drive a wedge between my fiancé and me. However, the bond between my fiancé and me is strong with a solid foundation. I appreciate his willingness to listen to me, and I'm pleased with how calmly I handled the situation. I can't help but wonder what the outcome could have been if something different had occurred. 2.) How do perceptions affect you in your daily life in your roles as scholars, parents, employees, and even Christ-followers? Perceptions affect us as students, parents, employees, and Christ-followers. Perceptions can influence our research and interpretation as scholars. Our perceptions can control how we educate our children, pass on values through them, and relate to them. Perceptions influence our work habits, interactions with coworkers, and job satisfaction. As Christians, our perceptions shape our connection with God and understanding of His will. Our perceptions can significantly impact our lives in each of these roles. If we have a favorable opinion of a line of study, as scholars, we could be more inclined to pursue it— our perspectives as parents can influence how we bring up our kids. We may be more willing to nurture and assist our children if we view them favorably. Our work habits as employees can be influenced by our perceptions. Positive attitudes toward our professions may increase our willingness to work long hours and get results. Our impressions can direct our spiritual lives as followers of Christ. Positive views of God may increase our desire to seek His direction and carry out His will for our life. 3.) How do you plan to keep your perceptions in balance within the workplace? What about in your personal life? I intend to maintain a healthy balance of perceptions within my workplace by ensuring I have factual knowledge regarding my job and the people who work with me. When I know what is expected of me, I am less inclined to misjudge my abilities or make assumptions. Second, I could be impartial in assessing my job and coworkers. In my daily life, I can also take action to maintain a sense of equilibrium in my perceptions.
First, I can ensure that I have correct knowledge regarding the people and circumstances that are a part of my existence. If I have a solid grasp of the information, I will have a decreased tendency to generate misconceptions about the situation. The second thing I can do is work on being as objective as possible in my assessments of the people and events in my life. 4.) Which Scripture(s) supports your overarching thoughts about perception? I chose two Bible verses to support my overall ideas about perception. “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” (NIV, 2019, Proverbs 12:15). This passage illustrates that we should be humble and willing to see things from other people's points of view. We will likely have wrong ideas if we are proud and not open to new ideas. The second verse is, “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (NIV, 2019, 1 Corinthians 13:12). This passage signifies to us that we can't see everything. We don't know everything and don't fully understand everything we see. But we can believe that God knows everything about us and that He will show us everything one day.
