These young kids became bored essentially in their minds. They wanted to get money together so they could go to Australia. They were sane, and conscious of the actions. Thyen had discussion determining the morality in their eyes of murders vs car thefts. 16 and 17 years old ; but with the ability to stab, very personal way to murder, the victims 11 times for one and 10 times for the other; throats were slashed. This speaks volume about the the murderers. They knew exactly what they were doing. I think charging adults who were of sound mind is exactly how they should be classified for court. Even with this, their mental state should be evaluated as well. They seem to be antisocials, although one showed remorse which usually antisocials cannot do. I think if they did have personality disorders, that would have to be considered since they are still young. If not, then they both should have 20 years to live. Punishment to me, should fit the crime; the brutality of their crime, say volume. I am pro rehabilitation but i also acknowledge we lack proper rehabilitation in our system. I don't think they would be rehabilitated, although with treatment they could turn their minds around in a sense. Kids this age who commit crimes like this, deterrence methods like "making an example" willl have little to no effect on whether that kid will commit murder ro not. Their minds are just wired a little different the average. The families of these victims got justice, who is the best retribution they willl get from these kids. If they seek money in civil matters or the courts impose the fees top them to pay, families will never reach that money judgment. You can't get water out of a dry well, these kids willl never pay the amount it would take to compensate for their actions, so to get past the trauma the victim's families have, they must accept the sentencing as pure justice.
