DEVELOPING ORGANIZATIONAL ETHICS AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE
BEHAVIOR
To ensure that business is conducted in an ethical way by companies and they are socially accountable, a CSR is used. This consists of environmental impact, human rights consideration, economic and social impact. An environmental reason for a CSR is to reduce damaging effects a company may cause. The implementation of initiatives to prevent damage to the environment include recycling programs, creating systems for fewer emissions, and recycling
programs. Businesses helping give back to the community in a show of support via social clauses
is a Philanthropic reason. Primary stakeholders include customers and staff. Business support groups and the general public are secondary stakeholders that influence Paradigm Toys. Developing programs that help children is one way that Paradigm Toys BOD (board of directors) can meet their corporate social responsibilities to their business support groups, employees, general public, and customers. Providing donations to underprivileged children could
be a way that Paradigm helps (Philanthropy). Paradigm, as a toy making company, has the ability
to easily help the less fortunate especially around Christmas. Christmas is a time when families have difficulty being able to afford gifts for their children. To boost their reputation Paradigm could broadcast a toy away to help those who cannot afford to buy gifts for their families. Another way to meet their corporate social responsibility is by providing affordable health insurance and living wages to employees. The treatment of their employees goes a long way in earning respect, and it exponentially reduces the risk of previous employees spreading negative reviews about their time employed with Paradigm Toys. B1. Building and ethical culture within the organization is imperative to the reputation of company. Having a positive reputation goes a long way in ensuring the success of the company.

Bad press tends to spread quickly, which can result in consumers avoiding doing business with the company. Organizational commitment can be enriched by a positive ethical culture. A positive ethical culture can help retain the workforce, improve employee morale, and foster an involved workforce. In order to provide a framework for the right decision making for employee it is important that clear boundaries for risks and ethical business standards is created. A.
Treating employees, the right way can play a role in fostering an ethical culture at Paradigm. Treating staff fair and equitably will prevent former employees from leaving bad reviews about the company. Paradigm can increase their public image by giving back to the community. Having leadership disseminate the company’s ethical values and standards, and having staff follow them will improve interactions with the public and the workforce. This will ensure the improvement of the overall work environment. 2. Evaluating the company’s standard of ethics, how well company follows the ethics, and the climate of ethics within the company is a part of an ethics audit. Ethics audits compare internal guidelines to internal behaviors on behavior-guidelines related to ethics related policies and procedures and corporate codes of conduct.
A. Ethics Audits could bring value to paradigm toys by bringing to light the company’s weaknesses and strengths regarding its conduction in an ethical manner. Whether Paradigm code has a written code of ethics and how much detail it encompasses can be identified by an ethics audit. An ethics audit will provide an adequate picture of organizational sustainability and health.
It can also show the extend at which the business is driven by CSR principles and stakeholder interests. Increased trust among stakeholders and an increase in reliable CSR reports is the ultimate benefit of an ethics audit.

DEVELOPING ORGANIZATIONAL ETHICS AND SOCIALLY 4
C. An ethical dilemma that I occurred while I was working as a floor nurse was that nurses would be charting that medication was given but the pill count would be off. I floated to a couple
floors during the stint as a nurse there, so I wasn’t always on the same floor. I used to go to 2
nd
floor on occasion and every time I would float there it was the same thing. A medication for a patient would be marked off as given but there would be too many pills left in the pack, indicating that the medication had not in fact been given. I can’t lie and say this is an uncommon issue because unfortunately it is very common. Nurses are over worked and understaffed. Nurses
will have 30-40 patients to one nurse. Sometimes nurses get overwhelmed and to prevent getting into trouble for not passing meds they just sign off, which is not only unethical but very dangerous to patients. There was one nurse specifically I kept ending up working behind and the numbers never matched up. I wasn’t sure what I should do because this wasn’t my usual floor, but it was her usual floor. She was very well liked and considered one of the top nurses on her floor. I didn’t want to bring to receive back lash from tattling on this nurse, but at the same time I
felt the patients were in danger. The other problem is who would I report it to, would they believe, and/or did they already know. C2. One solution could be to go to the charge nurse. I could report that while administering meds
I have noticed some discrepancies. I could provide the dates that I worked where it was off, and who I thought it was. I didn’t want to bring it up without proof because sometimes patients refuse, but the refusal wasn’t being charted it was being signed off that they were given, so I began to keep dates where there appeared to be an issue. The charge oversees the nurses when we are working the floor and she is the first line of contact in the chain of command. If I was wrong I could be reprimanded or even have my hours cut.

The second solution would be to say nothing and do my job. Patient charts and medical records are often audited by upper management and outside agencies. I could keep my mouth shut administer the meds I am required to administer during my shift and wait for an audit. The audit would catch the discrepancies and the necessary administrative staff and management would be notified. C3. Explanation of choice. After considering the options I decided to go to the charge nurse and if there was no change advance further up the chain of command. I decided to provide the charge nurse with all the information I had collected. I
tried to keep my feelings out of the situation and only provide the facts related to the issue. The charge nurse thanked me and said she would investigate the matter but asked that I not speak to anyone else. D1. Three components that would be included in the training program would be Diversity and Discrimination, sexual harassment, and conflicts of interest. Ethics training can promote awareness of the company’s ethical values, boost employee morale, and help facilitate the growth of the company. D1A: Key Components Explanation
The aforementioned components are essential in ethics training. Diversity and Discrimination, it shows the staff that the company is equal to employees and fair. It also sets the standard for the level of intolerance and what won’t be accepted. Knowing that discrimination is not tolerated and having diversity within the company will also create a safe space for employees. Sexual harassment needs to be included so that employees have a clear and concise understanding of tolerated behavior. The severity of the repercussions of lewd behavior and that sexual harassment
will be grounds for termination. The last component that will be addressed in training will be

conflict of interest as this can affect staff’s decision-making abilities. This can also play a role in the loyalty staff have towards their employer. Conflict of interest can be in several forms, relational, financial, confidentiality, competition, and romantic. D2. Delivery Method
There are several different ways to disseminate the training. The delivery method I am choosing to go with is the discussion method. D2A. Justification
The justification for the discussion method is that allows staff to be a part of the discussion. Staff
can ask questions and seek guidance if they are not completely understanding the training. Using the discussion method will keep the employees engage and topics fresh. This delivery method is beneficial when providing staff with facts and creating new awareness.
