As an executive director of a small publicly funded behavioral health agency, it is my ethical obligation to ensure that the services provided are accessible and equitable to all clients, regardless of their background or financial status.  The NAADAC Code of Ethics emphasizes the importance of providing quality care to clients, maintaining confidentiality, and avoiding discrimination.  When faced with a budget cut, it is important to prioritize services that are essential to the well-being of your clients.  I may consider reducing the number of sessions for each client, but it is important to ensure that clients receive adequate care and support.  Discontinuing services like psychiatry or substance abuse treatment may have a significant impact on clients who rely on these services for their recovery.  It is important to consider the long-term consequences of such decisions, (NAADAC, 2022).   One approach to cutting services is to focus on reducing cost while maintaining the quality of care.  This may involve laying off professional counselors and hiring non-licensed paraprofessionals, but it is important to ensure that these individuals are trained.  It is important to void discrimination and ensure that services are accessible to all clients.  Discontinuing services for undocumented immigrants and their children may violate ethical principles and could have a negative impact on the community, (Corey & Corey, 2019).  Instead, I would consider exploring alternative funding sources or partnerships to continue providing these services.   In the private sector, the approach may differ depending on the nature of the organization and the services provided.  However, the ethical principles of providing quality care, maintaining confidentiality and avoiding discrimination would still apply.  I would consider exploring alternative funding sources or partnerships to continue providing services to clients in need. In making a final decision about what to cut from my program, it is important to consider the ethical implications of the decisions.  The NAADAC Code of Ethics provides guidance on ethical decision-making and emphasizes the importance of considering the well-being of clients, avoiding discrimination, and maintaining confidentiality.  I may also consider consulting with other professionals in the field to ensure that my decisions are informed and ethical.
