Scenario # 1: Jane violated Code One of the Ethical Principles: Advocate, uphold, and defend the
individual's right to privacy and the doctrine of confidentiality in the use and disclosure of information. (AHIMA, 2019) 1. Jane did not uphold the individual's privacy. 2. She exposed private health information when she revealed that the patient did not have appendicitis. 3. AHIMA, Jane, The Patient, and the facility. 4. Report the incident to AHIMA.
5. Require additional training over the AHIMA Code of Ethics.
6. AHIMA Code of Ethics Section I 1.1,1.5. 7. Along with following HIPAA, create a company policy that conditions employees not to disclose or share private health information or share with unauthorized individuals. Scenario # 2: James violated ethical code IV: Refuse to participate in or conceal unethical practices or procedures and report such practices. (AHIMA, 2019) 1. James concealed practices that were unethical rather than filing a medical grievance. 2. James hid the fact that Dr. Smith used another physician's patients to obtain his fellowship. 3. AHIMA, Dr. Smith, James, the other physician, and the facility. 4. Report the incident to AHIMA. 5. Dr. Smith and James have been dismissed. 6. AHIMA Code of Ethics Section IV 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.6, 4.8 7. Create a new policy that states all providers applying for fellowship must provide supporting documentation that verifies previous work experience. Scenario # 3: Martha violated ethical code VII: Represent the profession to the public in a positive manner. (AHIMA, 2019). 1. Martha was not present at the workshop but was compensated for work she did not do. 2. Martha did not attend two of the workshop days. 3. AHIMA, Martha, and the facility. 4. Report the incident to AHIMA. 5. Martha will be reprimanded for violating AHIMA Code of Ethics. 6. AHIMA code VII 7.1 7. Create a policy that states that to be eligible for compensation, all employees must remain in attendance throughout the entire workshop.
Scenario # 4:
Erica violated code IX: State truthfully and accurately one's credentials, professional education, and experiences. (AHIMA, 2019). 1. Although Erica received a degree, she did not receive the degree from the well-respected program she mentioned. 2. Erica was not truthful when she stated she graduated from a well-respected program. 3. AHIMA, Erica, the facility, and the well-respected program. 4. Report the incident to AHIMA.
5. Erica was terminated from her new position due to falsifying information.

credentials, certifications, and educational degrees. Scenario # 5: Jack violated AHIMA ethical code II: Put service and the health and welfare of persons before self-interest and conduct oneself in the practice of profession to bring honor to oneself, peers, and the health information management profession. (AHIMA, 2019). 1. As an elected member of the board, Jack has a conflict of interest by promoting self-interest for the company he works for.
2. Jack has a conflict of interest and should not vote on the matter as he works for MediUpdate. 3. AHIMA, Board of directors, Jack, Mediupdates Jack, and other potential consulting companies. 4. Report incident to AHIMA. 5. Jack receives a warning for participating in the vote while having a conflict of interest thus his
vote being removed. 6. AHIMA Code of Ethics Section II 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.7 7. Create a new policy that states that a non-bias individual must assess each board member for any conflict of interest prior to reviewing any proposals or casting a vote.
