Question One As mentioned in the Chapter 7 overview, the faith of Christians is based on events documented in the Bible, which makes morality absolute and objective (Holland & Jibben, 2020). They believe in a God who is the ultimate source of morality, so human beings, culture, or personal preferences do not determine morality. Rather it should be based on God's nature and what he expects from us. Ethics should be based on the absolute principles of right and wrong based on God's unchanging nature, as illustrated in the Bible (Holland & Jibben, 2020). Moreover, Christian's moral standards are from reading the Bible and through the teachings of Jesus Christ, which are the epitome of what is right and wrong. Question Two B One worldview that will play a critical part in determining right and wrong in this case is ethics. According to Hiles & Smith, 2020, ethics consists of moral principles that guide human behaviors and attitudes, focusing on judgments on what is right and wrong. Therefore, regarding abortions, everyone has their personal opinions. Some people believe that life begins at conception and terminating a pregnancy is unethical as it is equivalent to killing. Others argue that abortion is necessary, mostly when experiencing life-threatening health complications. Therefore, deciding whether to terminate a pregnancy depends on a person's belief and whether they can feel about their decisions afterward. C Christians define ethics based on the idea that morality is objective and comes from God's nature (Hiles & Smith, 2020). They see ethics to be standards set by God, including the inherent worth and dignity of humanity, the sanctity of life, personal responsibility, and
accountability. Humans have a special ability to reason and make decisions that other God's creations cannot. We can decide whether to adhere to God's morals or what we have learned from life experiences. Christians believe that we should act in the liking of God and should always refer to his wishes as a guide to our decisions. D The Bible passage closely relates to this case for me is Jeremiah 1:15 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." This verse shows that God considers every life he has created and knew us before we were conceived. The second scripture is Psalms 139:13-16 which describes how God formed us, and every life is precious and valuable, regardless of the circumstances of their conception. Lastly, Corinthians 3:16-17 tells us that God put every man on this earth for a reason, and we are all here to serve a purpose. E I believe Christians would not allow Ruth to terminate her pregnancy, even though her baby will be born with Down syndrome. Christians believe that only God, the creator of everything under the sun, can decide when to give life or take it. Humanity is imperfect, but God condemned abortion, equivalent to murder. Rather than terminating it, Christians will advise her to carry the baby full term and put the baby up for adoption. This is because she may regret her decision to get rid of innocent life or feel differently after birthing the baby. Question Three The resolution increases human dignity and value in various ways. First, it encourages that every life is a blessing and deserves protection, no matter the circumstances they are conceived or how they are born. This stance promotes a culture that values human life and a
culture of respect and care for every human life (Zumpano Jr, 2020). It also gives the innocent lives of unborn babies a voice because they cannot speak for themselves. It shows that rather than risking the guilt of sin, there are other better options that people can take to avoid silencing a baby who has no say in their actions. Question Four Mankind is born with sin, and despite this, God is always in our lives, ready to receive us whenever we seek his goodness. Humanity can only flourish if we have a relationship with Him and have faith in his teachings. Whatever we seek through the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ, God will grant it, and our life will flourish. Without a relationship with God, we will fall into darkness and perish. Question Five One benefit of this resolution is that an innocent child is allowed to live out God's intended purpose. Secondly, not aborting means that the individual will not experience the mental and health risks associated with the procedure, including potential damage to the cervix. Depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, and alcohol/drug abuse. Ruth might also end up accepting and loving the baby after birth, and the child will get the chance to experience a mother's love like no other. Question Six As servants of the Lord, we should strive to live a life just as Jesus did by caring for others and spreading the word of God. To alleviate the struggles caused by this issue, Christians can vote against abortions, educate women on options for the life of their unborn child, and create awareness of pro-life. We can also donate and volunteer in pro-life organizations and help the mother research whether to have an abortion. Most importantly, I believe we should all give
