Journal Submission 3– Alejandro Gallo Plan, Prompt #1: Write all of the principles you can find that describe why we need to live in mortality. Not to frustrate the Plan of Salvation. To have the option to repent and choose to serve God. To have a preparation for eternal life To have the opportunity and learn to repent, which would give us the understanding of the atonement We had to die to be able to return to His presence Plan, Prompt #2: Explain in a couple of sentences what you learn about Judgment from these verses: I learned from judgement that we all are responsible for our own action. Furthermore, I learn that judgment is a process, we are going to be judge for our actions and also our repentance. These passages emphasize the importance of repentance too. ✎ Plan, Prompt #3: What difference does it make to you to know these doctrines from the Book of Mormon? (1–2 sentences) Knowing what I am supposed to become gives more sense to my actions and my life. I know that the study and the promises I make with God are worth a lot. It gives more sense to my action, and not only sense but motivation ✎ Plan, Prompt #4: How will this “big-picture” understanding affect the way you study the other doctrines in the book? (1–2 sentences) In my other religious class, the professor mentioned during last class the eternal perspective. I believe this doctrine has the same impact. Having a eternal perspective, and acting over this perspective changes drastically how I behave and think. It affects how I learn other doctrines in the way that I know the higher level goal, I know what my small actions contribute to. ✎ Plan, Prompt #5: What effect will this have on the way you live your life? (1–2 sentences) I have been seriously conscious about this eternal perspective since I came to BYU. This perspective, just to put an example has made me incorporate an especial petition in my daily morning prayers: I ask for the opportunity to serve, small or big. I believe that serving not only has a positive impact on me, but also on the person I am serving- I like
to think (my way of thinking with an eternal perspective) that the person I am serving gets some inspiration from my actions. Plan, Prompt #6: Identify one principle from this lesson that was most important to you. How could you implement this principle in your life? I like to think that because of the atonement I have the opportunity to become someone great, and also help others to be better. Fall, Prompt #1: Why do you think that we must first understand the creation before we can fully understand the fall of Adam? Your response should be in 1–2 sentences. Understanding the nature and the purpose of the creation gives us a good context and explanation for the fall of Adam. Without it we might just think it was a sin. Fall, Prompt #2: Carefully study the first three verses of 2 Nephi 2, and record in your journal in 1-2 sentences the different ways Lehi describes how both he and Jacob experienced the effects of the Fall of Adam and Eve. Also, look for the relationships between their afflictions and sorrows and their need for the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Lehi describes how both has suffered afflictions and sorrows as a result of the fall. However, he emphasizes the need for the atonement and uses their suffering as the purpose of it, the atonement. ✎ Fall, Prompt #3: What was Lehi teaching Jacob when he stated that God would “consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain” (2 Nephi 2:2)? What is the meaning of the word consecrate ? How does the idea of afflictions be consecrated for your gain relate to the exercise of moral agency and the doctrine of the Fall? Your response to these questions should be in 3–4 sentences. He referred to a contribution to their spiritual growth, made it part of the process. This relates to the concept of agency and the Fall since it demonstrates that despite the fall, we can use our agency to choose the right path. ✎ Fall, Prompt #4: According to 2 Nephi 2:3, what role does our personal “righteousness” play in our “afflictions” being consecrated for our gain as described in 2 Nephi 2:3? What role does “the righteousness of the Redeemer” have in both our temporal and eternal redemption? Your response to these questions should be in1–2 sentences. Our righteousness, since our moral is right, will make us open to forgive. The righteousness of the Redeemer will help anyone to repent and be redeemed.
This redemption gas a temporal impact on our relationship with others and with God, and an eternal role since we need It to access salvation. ✎ Fall, Prompt #5: Acknowledging the reality that each of us is in a fallen condition, what are the means by which God allows us to be, “instructed sufficiently that [we] know good from evil” (2 Nephi 2:5)? (1–2 sentences) At the end of the verse ‘Yea, by the temporal law they were cut off; and also, by the spiritual law they perish from that which is good, and become miserable forever’. God will give us blessings, some temporal, for following him, for not only knowing but doing what is right. It is an incentive program, encourages good behavior. Fall, Prompt #6: Your response to the following questions should be about 2–3 sentences. If all will be redeemed from the two deaths brought on by the Fall, why do we need to repent and obey the gospel? How does Jesus Christ help us overcome our own carnal nature in addition to the two deaths we inherited from Adam and Eve? If we desire to get to the Celestial Kingdom, it is not enough to be redeemed from the two deaths, we need to progress. Jesus through his atonement gave us the opportunity to repent, to be forgiven. His role is crucial to help us overcome our carnal nature, and to get to the Celestial Kingdom. ✎ Fall, Prompt #7: In what ways were the “forbidden fruit” and the fruit from the “tree of life” in “opposition” ( 2 Nephi 2:15) to one another? (1–2 sentences) The forbidden fruit represents the mortality, sin, and the knowledge of the good and evil. While the tree of life symbolizes the eternal life. Fall, Prompt #8: In one sentence, describe the differences between “sin” and “transgression” (2 Nephi 2:22–25). A sin is a disobedience to a commandment; however, the transgression is part of God’s plan. It was necessary for our progression and joy. ✎ Fall, Prompt #9: What is the ultimate purpose of the Fall of Adam and Eve? What is the ultimate purpose of our existence? (1–2 sentences) The Fall of Adam and Eve was a blessed event in the development of humankind. The purpose of our existence is to be given the opportunity to choose, and the purpose of God is bright to pass the immortality and eternal life of man Fall, Prompt #10: Write 2-3 sentences describing your feelings about the role Jesus Christ plays in redeeming us from physical and spiritual death. Through the atonement Jesus gave us the opportunity to repent and the chance of entering the Celestial Kingdom. I feel extremely grateful for His sacrifice and feel in debt with him.

Fall, Prompt #11: Identify one principle from this lesson that was most important to you. How could you implement this principle in your life? The purpose of God. Having a mentor in university was helpful, knowing that he just wanted the best for me made me ask him questions and reach out for his help. I can do the same with God, I have a life mentor. I am going to reach out more and stay in contact.
