Describe the most relevant facts of the case study—who, what, where, when, and why.
Recap the facts of the case study in your own words, using complete sentences.
Transparency and accountability are urgently needed in healthcare using AI. An American healthcare complex that includes hospitals, cancer institutes, and pharmacies suffered a data breach. Personal info and health records of thousands of RHC patients were stolen. Names, dates of birth, social security numbers, lab tests, and prescriptions were all included. There were two questions: who uses medical data and how? Second question, who regulates and protects that use? The breach raised serious questions about the use of AI in healthcare. The government needs to regulate the data and ensure that it is appropriately used and protected. Healthcare facilities should also take measures to ensure the safety of their data and customers.
Explain the two most important ethical issues raised by the facts of the case study, providing a rationale for your choices.
1.
Who uses medical data and patient information, and how?
These questions must be answered to ensure that patient data is used responsibly and ethically. Additionally, it is important to ensure that AI systems are accurately monitored and regularly reviewed to ensure they are functioning properly. Finally, it is essential to have clear and transparent policies on the use of AI in healthcare. AI data breaches in healthcare can have serious consequences, as patient information can be accessed and misused by unauthorized individuals. It is crucial for healthcare providers, AI developers, and regulatory bodies to work together to establish robust security measures, strict access controls, and regular audits to prevent such breaches and protect patient privacy. For instance, healthcare providers should ensure that all AI systems are regularly monitored to identify any suspicious activity, while AI developers should ensure all patient data is securely stored and access is restricted to authorized personnel only.
2.
Who regulates and safeguards that use?
Governments should regulate the use and implementation of AI systems to ensure that patient data is secure and that healthcare providers are held accountable for any misuse of AI technology. Companies should also be proactive in ensuring that their AI systems are secure to protect customer data. Finally, international organizations should play a key role in advocating for greater regulation of the AI
industry. For example, the European Commission recently proposed a set of regulations that would set standards for the use of AI systems in the healthcare industry.
Describe the ethical idea or theory that aligns most closely with your chosen issues, providing a 2
