1.) “Wal-Mart’s control over retailers can be seen by looking into how it forces retailers into selling to Wal-Mart at rock bottom prices. It used to be that manufacturers had some say as to what they would sell their products for according to the costs that they required to make the product. Wall-Mart has now changed this practice. The retail giant has become notorious for herding its vendors into cubicles and then telling the vendors what Wal-Mart will pay for the vendors’ products. Because Wal-Mart is such a powerhouse, the vendors are forced to comply. It
would be like committing retail suicide if the vendors refused and their products were not on the shelves of Wal-Mart. This is because close to 100 million shoppers go through Wal-Mart’s 3400 stores in one week, more than any other retailer in America (“Is Wal-Mart Good for America).”
2.) 1.Wal-Mart exerts control over retailers by compelling them to sell products at low prices, unlike
the past when manufacturers could set prices based on production costs.
2.Wal-Mart enforces this pricing control by dictating prices to vendors, which is a departure from the previous practice where manufacturers had more autonomy.
3.The significant market power of Wal-Mart forces vendors to comply with its pricing demands, as refusal could have detrimental effects on their businesses, akin to committing "retail suicide." Conclusion: Due to its dominance in the retail industry and the high foot traffic in its stores, Wal-
Mart effectively controls retailers' pricing strategies.
3.) The argument is inductive since it gives concrete facts as to why the situation is how it is, but it doesn’t tell you what side to agree with. 4.)It is a wonderful argument, since it gives the reader every single piece of information that they
need to create their own opinion on the matter, with accurate and important figures.
