Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines. Are there any differences in the ethical guidelines that govern these roles? What situations might require one role to respond differently, depending on the ethical guidelines? Even though there are many different specialties in nursing, all of them share one ethical guideline called the Code of Ethics for Nurses. The Code of Ethics for Nurses was developed as a guideline to carry out nursing responsibilities with quality in nursing care and the profession's ethical obligations to maintain society's trust (American Nurses Association, 2021). While the code governs over all APRNs, it could contribute to the field in a very different way for each practitioner. For example, an APRN could be given the assignment to help a patient suffering from endocarditis for the past couple of years. APRN found out that the patient's infection is resistant to most antibiotics, and most of the team members on board are recommending palliative care due to poor prognosis when the family members are requesting to continue to treat the patient in all means. APRN may determine that Eravacycline and Ceftaroline is the best treatment for the patient even though the cost of the medication for the patient is over $7,500 per day. It could be a viable option for the patient as it is minimally invasive and fulfills the request of the family to treat the patient when the patient is not a good candidate for surgical intervention. However, the nurse leader with the financial responsibility of the facility may think differently. Nurse leader may think the medication is overall too costly for the facility to allow for the patient. The facility would have to procure the medication and plan to treat the patient for an extended stay in the facility, requiring more resources to cover the need. Due to the extensive financial burden, nurse leader might decide to transfer the patient to a more prominent facility. References American Nurses Association. (2021).
