Bi-weekly Practicum Journal The practicum experience was an important thing in my first week. I really enjoyed it, and it functioned as a revelation to reality in society. I am confident that it gave me a more comprehensive view of the health problems affecting people in the community. Through this course, I have learned a lot of theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. I can attest that the participation in the practicum created more reality for the health issues and the social determinants that affect the quality of health in our society. The practicum relates to the objectives of healthy people 2030 in that I was able to identify some of the significant issues that are affecting the health status of the people. Healthy People 2030 is an organization that deals with several health objectives that aim to solve public health issues and achieve a healthy population in the Americas. During the practicum, some of the events fascinated me were interacting with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and their perception of health. This has made me appreciate that cultural diversity is a critical element that needs to be achieved in nursing and the healthcare workforce. After interacting with different people during the practicum and surveying the environment, I have believed that healthcare should be a topic that is studies holistically. However, much we can invest in treatment and curative methods, it is essential to invest in the preventive case because it will help many people not to get sick. The events at the park made me appreciate nature and consider that the social aspect of human beings is also one of the critical elements in holistic care (Nazarko, & Thorne, 2020). Holism is one of the Nursing Conceptual Framework Pillars taught in this college, and therefore I do take it seriously to have both angles of something properly understood. After the practicum experience, my perception of care has changed. I now feel that care should not only be what the nurses do at their clinical facilities. Care should be both in the clinic, at home and everywhere. I feel like nurses need to be diversified advocates of healthcare and need to reform institutional policies for better healthcare, but they need to advocate for healthcare policies that help both patients at home, the hospital, and the general population. I also realized that communication and observation skills are critical in offering care and conducting research (Arnold & Boggs, 2019). I now understand why the University is very serious about inculcating nurses' communication skills under various training programs. Despite the thinking that I was well vast with the theoretical concept of nursing, I also learned some things that I did not expect. Some of the things that don't give much importance to healthcare courses such as sidewalks, billboards, and community recreational facilities do matter. I have realized that by checking the billboards in the community, you can understand how they influence them. In general, it was a pleasant experience, and it made me learn a lot of the things that have equipped me with several nursing competencies. References Arnold, E. C., & Boggs, K. U. (2019).
