Nurse Practitioner certifications in family and adult-gerontology primary care roles are provided by two credentialing bodies, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANP), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Deciding which exam to take I reviewed 5 factors that would affect my success: my career plans, my testing style, my testing content preference, the number of questions on the exam, and the time limit for each exam. I also reviewed and updated my test anxiety plan with my professor. (AGNP FNP Candidate Handbook, 2023). I will take my AANP certification for Family Nurse Practitioner exam in the state of Florida, where I plan to work in either primary care or urgent care setting. My background is emergency medicine, but I want to make the transition to a healthcare position that will allow me to care for the individual and families, develop long and meaningful relationships with my patients and families, give back to my community, and allow me to maintain better hours than emergency care can allow and be able to spend more time with my family. I’m nervous, as I have loved emergency care over the last 12 years, but also excited, as it is time for a change. (Advanced Practice Education Associates, APEA staf , 2023). I hope to take the test in January, as I have already created my account with AANPCB and paid the fees for the FNP exam, but I am limited to an exact date at this time as South University policies and procedures do not release official transcripts and the Director of Nursing does not write certification letter to AANPBC until all clinical hours and credits are verified which is after the last day of class. My counselors state it could be few weeks to a month after graduation that these items can be sent to the certification agencies, therefore it will be close to mid-January. But this is ok, as I plan to take a live review 6-8 weeks prior to sitting for the certification, making good use of my time and to ensure I am prepared. (AGNP FNP Candidate Handbook, 2023).
