Holistic care refers to a comprehensive type of care being provided that targets the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of the health care consumer in order to facilitate a successful healing process. Holistic approach acknowledges the mind and spiritual well-being that is not commonly reveals during the process. It is a crucial part of the assessment process that care providers need to accomplish in order to make a plan of care that is unique and patient centered. Integrating a holistic care into patient care provides benefits such as improving quality of life, and enhancing life habits. With the clinical situation given above, there are a lot of ways the advance practice registered nurses (APRNs) can do to incorporate holistic care and facilitate healing. Empathetic listening should be engaged. Active listening is significant to address many challenges in paitent centered care and communication (Kwame & Perucka, 2021). Allowing time for the patient to express emotions validates their feelings and helps care providers to make appropriate referrals and counseling. Sharing mutual experiences establishes a relationship that can be a source of trust, peace, and comfort. A support system is essential in this overwhelming situation and it is necessary that they have one in order to boost their confidence and be able to improve their situation over time. As APRNs, we provide guidance and help them on enabling their sense of self confidence/ inner strength for herself and for her baby. Assisting them with spiritual coping strategies allows self-empowerment leading to sense of meaning and purpose (Joel, 2018). Aside from these interventions, a checkup call after the first meeting is an important step in sustaining and authenticating the caring relationship that was built initially. These practices reflect some of Watson’s Carative factors. It includes developing a helping-trusting relationship and creating a healing environment at all aspects. References: Joel, L.A., (2018).
