Hello Classmates, It is possible that the patient is experiencing a life-threatening allergic response, such as anaphylaxis, based on their symptoms and the circumstances that have been reported. Role of Genetics: The development of allergies and anaphylaxis may have strong hereditary components. Severe allergic responses may be more common in those who have a history of allergies in their family or who are predisposed to them (atopy). A person's susceptibility to hypersensitive responses to allergens might be influenced by hereditary factors ( Muraro, 2022). Reason for Specific Symptoms: A severe allergic response impacting many organ systems would explain the patient's symptoms, which include trouble swallowing, nausea, weakness, and the patient taking a tripod posture. A systemic reaction to the production of inflammatory mediators may cause weakness, nausea can be caused by gastrointestinal involvement, and difficulty swallowing can be caused by edema in the throat ( Muraro, 2022). Physiologic Response: The allergen that the patient is allergic to most likely was included in the injection that was given to them for allergy immunotherapy. In anaphylaxis, mast cells and basophils produce histamine and other mediators in an overreaction to an allergen. Smooth muscle contraction, mucus formation, vasodilation, and enhanced vascular permeability are all brought about by these mediators. As a defence mechanism against the severe allergic response, the body exhibits symptoms such as hypotension (low blood pressure), tachycardia (fast heart rate), and difficulty breathing ( Muraro, 2022). Cells Involved: Important cells in anaphylaxis are mast cells and basophils. Symptoms are caused by the production of histamine and other inflammatory mediators by these cells in reaction to the allergen. The symptoms in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems are
exacerbated by the production of these mediators, which cause the smooth muscles to contract, the blood vessels to dilate, and the permeability to rise ( Muraro, 2022). Impact of Other Characteristics: The probability and intensity of allergy responses may be impacted by variables related to gender and heredity. For instance, there is some evidence that suggests women can be more susceptible to certain types of allergies. The likelihood that a person may have an allergic response can also be affected by certain genetic differences. In order to customize therapeutic options, such the usage of epinephrine, and to estimate the risk of future responses, it is necessary to understand these characteristics ( Muraro, 2022). Time is of the essence in this situation. One of the main ways to treat anaphylaxis is with the injection of epinephrine, which blocks the allergic reaction's systemic consequences. In the event that the patient's vital signs continue to decline, it is critical to contact emergency medical services immediately ( Muraro, 2022).
