Hello Thank you for your post this week. Policy advocacy plays a crucial role in fulfilling the social responsibility of the nursing profession. Advocacy has emerged as a fundamental aspect within nursing organizations worldwide. However, the prevailing rhetoric mostly emphasizes the individual nurses' responsibilities and accountabilities, neglecting the policy advocacy efforts conducted by nursing organizations (Abbasinia et al., 2020). In order to enhance this crucial role, it is imperative to possess a comprehensive knowledge of the existing body of literature, since this enables the identification of specific areas that necessitate further investigation. A scoping review was undertaken to analyze the characteristics, scope, and breadth of academic literature pertaining to nursing organizations and their efforts in policy advocacy. Moreover, although policy advocacy is acknowledged as a crucial element in fulfilling the social responsibility of the nursing profession, the scrutiny of policy advocacy undertaken by nursing organizations has been very limited. (Chiu et al., 2023). The investigation of this subject holds significant scholarly value, as advocacy groups are widely recognized as influential entities that play a crucial role in determining policy agendas, procedures, and outcomes. The AMSN serves as the sole national professional association advocating for medical-surgical nursing. Its strategic purpose is around enhancing patients' access to healthcare that is both of high quality and economical, while also addressing the various factors that impact the work settings and professional practice of med-surg nurses. The Association of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) serves as a representative entity for both medical-surgical patients and medical-surgical nurses, advocating for their interests and concerns at both the state and federal levels (Chiu et al., 2023). The Advocacy Actions undertaken by the AMSN aim to monitor and advance laws and policies that improve the status of medical-surgical nurses and the provision of high-quality care in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, outpatient facilities, homes, telemedicine, and other non-conventional environments.
